Donald Trump has signed an executive order authorising economic and travel sanctions against people who work on International Criminal Court (ICC) investigations of US citizens or US allies, such as Israel.

ICC ‘condemns’ US sanctions ‘seeking to harm’ its work:
The Hague-based court has hit back after US President Trump slapped sanctions on the institution, promising it would continue to provide “justice and hope” around the world.

“The ICC condemns the issuance by the US of an Executive Order seeking to impose sanctions on its officials and harm its independent and impartial judicial work,” the court said in a statement.

“The Court stands firmly by its personnel and pledges to continue providing justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities across the world,” it added.

Yesterday, Trump authorised economic and travel sanctions targeting people who work on the court’s probes on US citizens or allies such as Israel.

ICC must be able to pursue ‘fight against global impunity’:
Ursula von der Leyen, the president of European Commission, says the International Criminal Court (ICC) must be able to pursue its fight against global impunity without hindrance.

Countries, rights groups condemn Trump’s ICC sanctions

Caspar Veldkamp, the foreign minister of the Netherlands, has described the International Criminal Court’s work as “essential in the fight against impunity”.

“The Netherlands actively contributes to strengthening the international legal order and multilateral cooperation and will, in good faith, fulfil binding international law and treaty obligations,” he said.

Agnes Callamard, the chief of Amnesty International, a global rights group, has also condemned the decision, describing Trump’s order as “reckless”, “vindictive” and “aggressive”.

She said the US sanctions undermine the court’s “independent pursuit of international justice”.

“Governments around the world and regional organisations must do everything in their power to mitigate and block the effect of President Trump’s sanctions,” Callamard said.

“Through collective and concerted actions, ICC member states can protect the Court and its staff. Urgent action is needed, like never before,” she added.

Marvel Entertainment, Trump Election Funding by Ghosts of Palestine

Ownership of Marvel Entertainment
Marvel Entertainment is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. Disney acquired Marvel in 2009 for approximately $4 billion. The company is known for its extensive portfolio of superhero characters and its cinematic universe. Key figures in Marvel's history include Isaac Perlmutter, a former CEO of Marvel Entertainment, who is of Israeli-American descent.

Connections to Zionism and Israel
Marvel is onnected to Zionism and Israeli nationalism. For example, the announcement of Israeli actress Shira Haas playing the superhero Sabra in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film "Captain America: New World Order" sparked backlash. Sabra, a character originally depicted as a Mossad agent in the comics, has been criticized for promoting Zionist.

Additionally, several individuals associated with Marvel have ties to Israeli intelligence and Zionist institutions. These connections have led to accusations that Marvel promotes militarism and nationalism, including U.S. and Israeli military propaganda.

Israeli Projects and Representation
Marvel's inclusion of Israeli characters and themes has been a point of contention. The character Sabra, for instance, has been reimagined for the MCU to address concerns about her original portrayal, which some viewed as insensitive and overly nationalistic. Such representations can serve to normalize and promote Israeli state policies, including those related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Ethnic Cleansing of Palestinians
The company's portrayal of Israeli characters and themes can indirectly support narratives that align with Israeli state policies. These policies have been described by some as contributing to the displacement and oppression of Palestinians.

Religion of Marvel's Key Figures
Isaac Perlmutter, a prominent figure in Marvel's history, is Zionist and has been described as a supporter of pro-Israel causes. His background and connections have fueled discussions about Marvel's alignment with Zionist ideologies.

Trump and Pro-Israel Stances
Donald Trump has been vocal about his support for Israel, often framing it as a key aspect of his political identity. He has criticized Jewish Americans who vote for Democrats, claiming they "hate Israel" and "their religion". Trump's administration was widely regarded as one of the most pro-Israel in U.S. history, a stance that resonated with many Republican Zionist donors.

Conclusion
Marvel Entertainment's connections to Israel and Zionism have sparked significant debate, particularly regarding its portrayal of Israeli characters and themes. Isaac Perlmutter, the prominent businessman known for his leadership at Marvel Entertainment, is married to Miriam Perlmutter. Together, they are recognized for their philanthropic efforts and involvement in various companies. Their wealth is significantly tied to Perlmutter's successful ventures in the entertainment and business sectors. Miriam Perlmutter funded Donald Trump's election campaign and was invited to Trump's inauguration.

ICC chief prosecutor to be first target of Trump’s sanctions: Report

International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan may be the first person to be targeted under President Trump’s executive order authorising sanctions against the court and its staff, the Reuters news agency reports, citing two anonymous sources.

Khan, a British citizen, was named on Friday in an annexe – not yet made public – to Trump’s executive order, said a senior ICC official and another source, both briefed by US government officials.

The sanctions Khan and other designated ICC officials will face include the freezing of US assets and being barred, along with their families, from visiting the US.

Trump’s executive order directed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in consultation with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to submit a report within 60 days naming those who should be sanctioned.

Trump’s move has been met with widespread condemnation, including from more than 70 countries – France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands among them – who have reaffirmed their support for the ICC.

The ICC has condemned the sanctions, pledging to stand by its staff and “continue providing justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities across the world”.
