What to know about Tyre, Lebanon’s ancient city under Israeli terrorists bombardment

The city on the Mediterranean coast of southern Lebanon, the site of the latest expansion of devastating Israeli air attacks on the country, is one of the region’s oldest and historically most significant cities.

It has been continuously inhabited for more than 4,000 years, also rising to prominence as a key maritime and trade hub in the Mediterranean under different empires.

Tyre is also known for its Roman ruins, including a hippodrome and triumphal arches, which have earned UNESCO World Heritage status.

Today, it is Lebanon’s fifth-largest city with an estimated population of more than 135,000 people. Its economy is primarily driven by agriculture, fishing and tourism
