On the night of February 7, 1986, Iran launched Operation Al-Fajr-8 (Persian for "Dawn-8") to capture the Fao Peninsula. By February 12, Iran had completely captured the Fao Peninsula, losing 600 killed and 2,000 wounded as opposed to Iraq's 5,000 killed and wounded and 1,500 prisoners.
