A newly published book on medicine for the first time has been published.
Abu Ishaq Ibrahim al-Qariji al-Andalusi (died after 637H.) who was one of the main physicians near the end of fall of al-Andalus.
The book talks about topics related to preserving the body from diseases, negative effects that can occur on body organs, herbal treatments, etc.
This book is based off three other famous books of medicine written by Andalusians:
1. al-Taysir fi al-Mudawa wa'l-Tadbir from ibn Zuhr
2. al-Kuliyat fi al-Tib from Abu Walid ibn Rushd
3. al-Adwiya al-Mufarida from Abu al-Abbas al-Nabati ibn al-Rumiya
Ustadh Al-Mahdi ibn Muhammad al-Sa’idi helped annotate the book. He is doing a great job in publishing new books from Moroccan and Andalusi heritage.

Poem of Lisan ad-Din ibn al-Khatib of the Nasri Ruler Yusuf I of Granada | Shaykh Said al-Kamali
I translated a poem from a famous well known historian, polymath and minister of al-Andalus, Lisan ad-Din ibn al-Khatib.
In this poem, Lisan ad-Din speaks highly of one of the last kings of Al-Andlaus, Abu Hajjaj Yusuf ibn Nasir.
Abu Hajjaj is also named al-Muayyad Billah and was the seventh ruler of the Emirate of Granada.

Have you heard of the “Ibn Khaldun” of Mauritania?
He is considered personally as one of the most interesting scholars that I have ever read within our century and would be a man not known to most in the English speaking world.
His name is Shaykh al-Mukhtar Walad Hamid. He was a poet, faqih and historian. Born in Mauritania in the year 1897 from a noble family. He has spent his early years seeking Islamic knowledge and learning Arabic in depth.
He traveled to Senegal for business where he met Arabs from Syria and Lebanon. Such as the famous Lebanese writer, Muhammad Yusuf Maqlad. Shaykh al-Mukhtar would have debates with them on Arabic poetry until they were so impressed how strong the Shaykh and Mauritanians are in Arabic that they proposed to him to write about the history of Mauritania and its culture due to the severe lack of resources.

The shaykh also has a poem about Qabd and Sadl according to the Maliki madhab.
After his stay in Senegal, he returned back to Mauritania were he took a position of teaching as a professor of Arabic and history. He became very well known to the scholars and people of his country until he eventually became an advisor for the prime minister. After Mauritania got self-governing rule in 1958, Shaykh Mukhtar participated in writing the new constitution.
After a long period of teaching and serving his country, he decided to retire and spend his last days in the city of Madina, Saudi Arabia where he was granted Saudi citizenship by King Khalid ibn ‘Abdul Aziz.
Due to the shaykhs efforts in writing his encyclopedia, teaching history for many years and having a strong passion for history, he was called the “ibn Khaldun” of Mauritania. Similar to how ibn Khaldun wrote his big book of history and his passion for history.
Shaykh Mukhtar passed away in Madina in 1993 and is buried in al-Baqi’.
May Allah have mercy on him.

The brothers from Hajj on horseback came and visited us in my university Sabahattin Zaim in Istanbul.
They came all the way from Spain though Europe until they reached Istanbul!
They are now on their way towards Mecca to preform Hajj In’shaa’Allah.

Ramadan in al-Andalus
In the great mosque (Jami al-Kabir) of the city of Cordoba, it was known during the month of Ramadan that it remained open all night and the amount of oil to light the lanterns cost half the annual amount just in the month of Ramadan alone. During Layla al-Qadr, large amounts of perfume were burned on this special occasion.
Imam al-Maqari mentioned in his book Nafh al-Tib that in the great mosque there were 280 chandeliers. The number of lanterns was 8,425 and some have said it could have been 10,805!

Very nice book to start with before you get into Tafsir. It is a simple explanation of words from the Qur’an in alphabetical order.
The author, Abu Hayyan was an Andalusian scholar who wrote the famous Tafsir al Bahr al-Muhit that is 22 volumes. He was very strong in Arabic grammar and his explanation of the Qur’an is a go-to for grammar and eloquence.
