Shaykh Mahmud Wald Ahmad as-Shanqiti will give a weekly class in Arabic on a 1081 line poem from Lisan ad-Din ibn Khatib al-Andalusi on all of the Muslim leaders from the Kulafa Rashidin until the time of the author.
History lovers will surely love this class!
Lisan ad-Din was a polymath, doctor, poet and historian who wrote many books on Arabic literature and history especially about Al-Andalus. He was also a vizier to the Sultan of Granada. He is buried at Bab Mahruq in Fes, Morocco.
It is an impressive work to make Islamic history into a poem!

3 out of 4 of the major sources for Mukhtasar Khalīl have their roots in Europe:
(Mukhtasar Khalil is the premier fiqh compendium in the Maliki madhab)
1. Ibn Yūnus Al-Siqilli
His nisbah itself shows he was from Sicily and he took from many of the Sicilian scholars.

2. Ibn Rushd Al-Qurtubi
He was the grandfather of the philosopher Ibn Rushd (who was also a faqīh). Born, raised and studied in Cordoba. He saved Andalus for another ~500 years by convincing the Murabitun to take control of the divided Taifas.
3. Al-Māzari
He was from the region known today as Mazara Del Vallo, Sicily. Known for his great intellectual prowess and was among the first to do a sharh of Imam Al-Juwayni’s Al-Burhān in usul.
4. Al-Lakhmi (the fourth major source of Khalil)
Al-Lakhmi was from Sfax in modern day Tunisia. He was not from the European continent but taught many students from Europe including Al-Māzari and Averroes.

🔷Currently going over this book. Probably one of the best books you can ever study from Usul al-Fiqh before heading on to the bigger books. A study of logic is most definitely needed before.

It was the last serious attempt for Muslims to reclaim their foothold in Western Europe.
The Marinids (المرينيون) had amassed such a naval force that they easily wiped out the Castilian fleet before the battle
And even absorbed their remaining ships into their fleet.
Their enemies were running low on supplies after a long journey.
And the Muslims had with them awliyā and ulema incl the likes of Ibn Juzayy Al-Kalbi (a martyr in the battle)
But still they lost. And the Emirate of Grenada was slowly squeezed to death over the next 2 centuries.
This battle - in addition to the Ottomans being rebuffed twice from Vienna at the peak of their power - gives reason to belive
that Allah ordained that Muslims should not have a signifacnt influence in the development of modern Western Europe
What is the hikmah behind Allah’s decree? I’m not sure yet but it’s worth Muslims in the West pondering it.

Shaykh Muhammad Amin Shanqiti said the reason why people love Imam ibn Juzays books is because he wrote them for his son and he wanted to give him the cream of the tradition.
His books are short but full of a lot of information.

After 897 years a book that was considered lost has been published!
A recent publication of, al-Fusul wal-Muqaditmat Fi Usul Diyanat by Imam Abu Hajjaj Yusuf ibn Musa ad-Darir from the city of Zaragoza the very tip end of northern modern day Spain.
This scholar lived in al-Andalus, later related to Marrakesh and finally settling in Egypt. He was known to be a big scholar in Theology and Arabic grammar. One of his students is the famous Qahdi ‘Iyad.
Imam Abu Hajjaj was also known for his strong style in debating. In one story he won a debate between some Jews and proved at the same time that the Mu'tazilah had some beliefs similar to them.
Ustadh Abdullah at-Tawrati from Morocco took up the task of annotating the book. The ustadh is known to do a really great work in the field of annotation and helped publish many books especially from Imam Abu Bakr ibn al-Arabi al-Andalsui.
Publisher Mektaba Ismail from England published the book.

Anyone who is familiar with US politics knows that Ronald Regan is considered by many Republicans as one of their favorite presidents. He also won a landslide win against his opponent in the elections with 49 states.
The fact that he spoke about ibn Khaldun related to the economy is very interesting.
We find many well known westerners took care of the works of Ibn Khaldun and read his works related to economy and sociology.

Two years ago there was an international seminar on the 900th anniversary of the death of the great judge, Imam Abu Bakr ibn al-Arabi al-Andalsui (D. 543AH). It was held in Rabat, Morocco. A number of authors and researchers attended the event and shared their research about the Imam.
Researcher Ustad Iyass Amharar helped edit a new book based on the seminar. It has been published by the famous Brill Publishers based in the Netherlands.
