Some pictures of a project in reviving Andalusian-Maghribi calligraphy in manuscript form. The work is extremely beautiful and I hope to see more like this and will continue to grow, in’shaa’Allah.
The work has been done by calligrapher Ustadh Badr Essaihi (@badr_essaihi), geometric floral design by Ustadh Fouad Blili (@fouad_blili), leather craftsmanship by Furkan Yoldas (@furkanyoldas_), and photographer Khalil SK (@khalil_sk).
I would advise everyone to check out their social media accounts on Instagram and see more pictures of art.

An interesting yet sad story about this book.
It was said that after the author wrote this book he was murdered.
There was a group that was residing in al-Andalus and migrated to Morocco when al-Andalus fell into the hands of the Catholics. This group was against the Maliki Madhab and its Usul.
A Maliki scholar by the name of Abu al-Abbas al-Waryakili as-Saghir wrote a strong rebuttal against this group and defended the Maliki school. This group could not handle this refutation and it was said that it led to Shaykh al-Waryakili being killed.
This book has been published for the first time by Ihya Center For Research and Studies in Cairo.

🔷How a Soldier From Al-Andalus Would of Looked Like
As you can see there is a covering that wraps around soldier similar to a Silham that is worn in North Africa until this day.
A pointy style helmet was also common in Muslim lands in the east.
Helmets without pointy tops was also worn in Al-Andalus such as the helmet of Abu Abdallah Muhammad XII, known in the West as Boabdil, the last Nasrid sultan of Granada (reigned 1482–83 and 1487–92). His helmet is rumored to be in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City. I have personally seen this helmet and took a picture with it.

🔷New class!
Shaykh Mahmud Wald Ahmad as-Shanqiti will give a weekly class in Arabic on a 1081 line poem from Lisan ad-Din ibn Khatib al-Andalusi on all of the Muslim leaders from the Kulafa Rashidin until the time of the author.
History lovers will surely love this class!
Lisan ad-Din was a polymath, doctor, poet and historian who wrote many books on Arabic literature and history especially about Al-Andalus. He was also a vizier to the Sultan of Granada. He is buried at Bab Mahruq in Fes, Morocco.
It is an impressive work to make Islamic history into a poem!

Islamic thought is indigenous to European thought.
3 out of 4 of the major sources for Mukhtasar Khalīl have their roots in Europe:
(Mukhtasar Khalil is the premier fiqh compendium in the Maliki madhab)
1. Ibn Yūnus Al-Siqilli
His nisbah itself shows he was from Sicily and he took from many of the Sicilian scholars.
أَعَادَهَا اللَّهُ لِلْإِسْلَامِ
2. Ibn Rushd Al-Qurtubi
He was the grandfather of the philosopher Ibn Rushd (who was also a faqīh). Born, raised and studied in Cordoba. He saved Andalus for another ~500 years by convincing the Murabitun to take control of the divided Taifas.
3. Al-Māzari
He was from the region known today as Mazara Del Vallo, Sicily. Known for his great intellectual prowess and was among the first to do a sharh of Imam Al-Juwayni’s Al-Burhān in usul.
4. Al-Lakhmi (the fourth major source of Khalil)
Al-Lakhmi was from Sfax in modern day Tunisia. He was not from the European continent but taught many students from Europe including Al-Māzari and Averroes.

🔷Currently going over this book. Probably one of the best books you can ever study from Usul al-Fiqh before heading on to the bigger books. A study of logic is most definitely needed before.
The author is Imam Ibn Juzay al-Kalbi al-Andalusi who was a polymath and wrote in every almost subject in Islam. Each and every single book he has wrote is well known, easy to understand and continued to be studied all over the Islamic lands.
It just shows the amount of barakah that Allah has put into this Imams works.
It was said that Imam ibn Juzzay was the khatib of the Jummah prayer the main mosque of Granada.
He participated in the battle of Río Salado and his body was never found.
May Allah have mercy on all the Muslim scholars.
