REVISING YOUR KNOWLEDGE
Abdullah bin Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said: "The example of the carrier of the Qur'ān is like no other than the owner of a camel whose (camel's) feet are bound by a cord; if he guards over it, he will keep it under control, but if he releases it, it will run away." Bukhari, Muslim, and Mālik collected this hadith.
Imām ibn 'Abdil-Barr al-Andalsuī said: -

"In this Hadith is a proof that whosoever does not revise his knowledge will lose it, whoever he may be because their knowledge at that time was the Qur'ān and nothing else, and if the Qur’ān which has been made easy to remember is lost without revision, then what about other types of knowledge?! And the best type of knowledge is that of which its foundation is perfected and its branches are memorized, and that which leads to Allah and that which pleases Him." -

Poem from a famous well known poet from al-Andalus, Lisān ad-Dīn ibn al-Khatīb. In this poem it speaking highly of one of the Kings of Al-Andlaus, Garnāda, Abu Hajāj Yusuf ibn Nasir. -

طابَتْ بوجودِكَ أنْدَلُسٌ
حسُنَتْ بجوارِكَ مُرتَفَقا

إنْ طافَ بها شيْطانُ عِدىً
يبْغي بسَمائِكَ مُسْتَرَقا

أو جاسَ خِلالَ منازِلها
قذَفَتْهُ سُعودُكَ فاحْتَرَقا

-

al-Hāfidh ibn Hazm al-Andalusī:
❝If knowledge didn’t have any virtue apart from the fact that ignoramuses would fear you in awe and revere you, and that the scholars would love and honour you, that would’ve been enough for you to be obliged to seek it. What then if we took into consideration all the other virtues of knowledge in this world and the hereafter? -
And if ignorance didn’t have any fault except that the ignorant one harbours severe envy for those who are knowledgable and is likewise jealous of his fellowship of ignoramuses, that would’ve been sufficient for one to be obliged to flee from it. What then if we took into consideration all the other vices and that are linked to ignorance (and their consequences) in this world and the hereafter?❞

When the city of Córdoba, Spain, fell to the fell to the Catholic Mushrikin in the 600s A.H., al-Imām Muḥammad al-Qurṭubī was forced to flee to its outskirts for refuge.
He writes in his Tafsīr of the Qur‘ān (10/269):
❝I was running from the enemy and had to change my course. Shortly thereafter, I was followed by two enemy horsemen. I was in an open area with nothing to prevent them from seeing me. I began to recite the beginning of Sūrat Yasīn and some other Qur‘ānic verses. The two horsemen passed me, and then returned and passed me again without seeing me. I heard one of them telling the other: he must have been a Diablo (devil)! Allāh ‘Azza wa Jal blinded them from seeing me, so Al-Ḥamdulilāh for this.❞
