🔷’Aisha bint Ahmed come from a well known family in the city of Córdoba, al-Andalus.

She was a well mannered poet possessed with purity and eloquence of the Arabic language.

In her days, there was no one in al-Andalus who was equivalent to her in knowledge, understanding, literature, poetry and eloquence of the Arabic language.

She used to speak highly of the rulers of Al-Andalus and address them for her needs.

She was also a good handwriter on writing the Masāhif, she collected many books and had strong dedication to knowledge.

Here is some of her poetry:

أراكَ اللَه فيه ما تريدُ
ولا برحت معاليهِ تزيدُ
فَقد دلّت مخايله على ما
تؤمّله وطالعه السعيدُ
تشوّقتِ الجياد له وهزّ ال
حسام هوى وأشرقتِ البنودُ
فَسوف تراه بدراً في سماءٍ
منَ العليا كواكبه الجنودُ
وكيفَ يخيبُ شبل قد نمتهُ
إِلى العليا ضراغمة أسودُ
فَأنتم آل عامر خير آلٍ
زكا الأبناء منكم والجدودُ
وَليدكم لَدى رأي كشيخ
وَشيخكمُ لدى حربٍ وليدُ

Aisha bint Ahmed al-Qurtubiyyah is also amongst the list of Notable Muslims in the 2002 special edition of Saudi Aramco World.

She died in the year 400 H.

🔷What led to Ibn Hazm al-Andalusī to seek knowledge?

Watch this video from Shaykh ibn Uthaymin were he explains how ibn Hazm went from a man who sought seeking knowledge later in his life to become who he was as a scholar.

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلْأَبْتَرُ

For he who makes you angry [to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)]- he will be cut off. •(Surah Kawthar 108/3).

It was said this Ayah was revealed to be a refutation for Abu Jahl. When he said (out of slander) that the prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is cutoff/childless without any offspring. He meant that he had no child of remembrance.

When Abu Jahl died the Sahaba became at rest and his affairs were cut off from his death. Allah informed that this disbeliever (Abu Jahl) is he who is actually cut off, even if Abu Jahl had offspring. Because he is cut off from the Mercy of Allah and he is not mentioned except with a remembrance of accursedness.

A difference with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), who he is mentioned lasting until the end of time and elevated on the Minbars, connected with the remembrance of Allah.

And the believers from his era to the day of judgement are his followers and he is like a father to them.

Ibn Hazm al-Andalusī:

No calamity is there in the world equal to separation: if the souls of men should flow out of their bodies by reason of it-
and much more the tears out of their eyes-it were but little to wonder at.

A certain philosopher, on hearing a man remark that seperation was the brother of death, said, “Nay, but death is the brother of seperation.”

🔷Gems from al-Muwatta:

In this Hadith that I posted with the translation we can gather many gems and benefits.

Amongst the gems and benefits we find are: To verify any news that you get with authentic sayings, the rulers under a just Islamic State can be amongst the ulama, the fuqaha conveying Knowledge to the rulers, to research and make the effort to seek knowledge, etc.

Imām Yusuf ibn Abd al-Barr said:

Marwān (ibn Al-Hakm, Amīr of al-Medina) was from those intrigued with Knowledge and matters of the Dīn which was from (his actions) in the Dunya.

And Marān was from amongst the ‘Ulama. Likewise his son ‘Abd al-Malik.

And in it (this Hadith), searching of the proof (الحجة) and evidence (الدليل).

And to search for Knowledge until it is affirmed.

And acknowledging knowledge with the truth (بالحق) and its equity (إنصاف) when he heard the evidence (الحجة).

And so, the people of the Dīn and Knowledge are holders of equity and acknowledgment.

🔷Many of us know the top scholar from al-Andalus, Imam ibn Abd Al-Barr.

He was from the City of Córdoba which is located in modern day, Spain.

But he was also a judge in Lisbon and Santarém, two cities in Portugal.

🔷The Pious Wife

Al-Qāḍī Abū Bakr ibn al-ʿArabī al-Andalusī:

❝If a man does not have a pious wife, his affairs will not be straight with her except by forfeiting a portion of his religion. This is something witnessed and known by experience.❞

🔷Same book At-Tamhīd by Imām Yusuf ibn Abd al-Barr al-Andalusī al-Malikī but different publications. To those who are interested into reading from at-Tahmid, then the version on the top goes in order of hadith from different chapters just like in Muwata. Such as starting from time of Salah, Purification, etc.

As for the second version it is how the original Sharh is and in order of hadith, from the narrator.

I prefer to use the first version because it very useful to navigate with the ahadith. As for the second version, it is much better edited and is the latest version available.

I hope this will be useful for those wanting to read the Sharh of Muwata.
