♦️One of the oldest Masjid in the world. Full of Andulsian and North African history.
The name is called, “Koutoubia Mosque” and is located in the city of Marrakesh, Morroco. Near the famous tourist attraction, Jemaa el-Fna. It also includes garden that surrounds the Masjid.
The minaret stands 70 meters high, which was an one of the highest during its era.
The Masjid got its name because of the numerous book sellers and traders who used to surround the masjid.
The city of Marrakesh, prior was ruled by the state of Almoravids. A state that was a state full of honor for the Andalusians and North Africans. But the city of Marrakesh was later to be captured by the Almohads.
The masjid first started to be built nearly 878 years go under the ruler of the Almohad State, Abd-al-Mu'min around the year 535A.H (1141).
Eventually, the masjid along with the tall minaret was completed around the year 553A.H (1158) under the ruler, Yaqūb El-Mansūr. This is the same ruler who help built the big minaret and masjid of Seville, al-Andalus along with the unfinished Hassan Tower in Rabat, Morroco.
Yaqūb El-Mansūr, is also known for his military battles in al-Andalus, where he had successfully beat Spanish and Portuguese christian rulers.
