An excellent lecture by our brother Abū Sulaymān (may Allāh preserve him).

The topic of sisterhood is one of great importance.

We have seen and heard many stories over the years of sisters not being made to feel welcome in masājid, being shunned and looked down upon for not being dressed like other sisters.

We need to remind ourselves not to aid the shaytān in driving people away from the masājid. The fact that such a sister has come to the masjid is a great blessing which most likely required a battle.

Remember how you (the one driving people away) was once misguided and perhaps in a worse situation.

“As he is now, so were you yourselves before till Allah conferred on you His Favours (i.e. guided you to Islam), therefore, be cautious in discrimination”. (4:94)

Imām As-Sa’dī rahimahullāh said in his tafsīr of this verse: “So just as Allāh guided you after your misguidance likewise He guides others beside you”.

This also applies to brothers who drive others away from the masājid.

Piety of the parents benefits the children.

Allāh ﷻ said:

“And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the town; and there was under it a treasure belonging to them; and their father was a righteous man…” (18:82).

Ibn Kathīr rahimahullāh mentions in his tafsīr regarding Allāh’s statement:

(“And their father was a righteous man”).

“This indicates that a righteous person’s offspring will be taken care of, and that the blessing of his worship will extend to them in this world and in the Hereafter.

This will occur through his intercession for them, as well as their status being raised to the highest levels of Paradise, so that he may find joy in them. This was stated in the Qurān and reported in the Sunnah.

Sa’īd bin Jubayr rahimahullāh narrated from Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allāh be pleased with him and his father): "They were taken care of because their father was a righteous man, although it is not stated that they themselves were righteous.''

Ibn Kathīr rahimahullāh also mentions that this righteous man was from the forefathers of these orphans, stating that it was their 5th great grandfather, it has also been stated that it was their 8th great grandfather.

This shows that the blessings of a righteous person’s worship can extend to future generations and that if he doesn’t see the good in his own children then it could be that Allāh brings out from his progeny righteous people who benefit him well after he has departed from the dunyā.

Al-Baghawī rahimahullāh mentions in his tafsīr that Sa’īd bin Al-Musayyib rahimahullāh said: “I pray and remember my son and increase my prayers”.

In addition to that which has been mentioned, it is of great importance that a parent supplicates for his children. The messenger of Allāh ﷺ informed us that supplication of the parent for his child is accepted.

“There are three supplications that will undoubtedly be answered: the
supplication of one who has been oppressed, the supplication of the traveller and the supplication of a father for his child." (Abū Dāwūd (1536), At-Tirmidhī (1905) Ibn Mājah (3862) and graded hasan by Al-Albānī rahimahullāh in Sahīh Ibn Mājah 3129).

It is also of great importance that we educate, cultivate and leave a lasting legacy behind for them to have as a foundation to establish their lives upon.

“Or were you witnesses when death approached Ya’qūb? When he said unto his sons, “What will you worship after me?” They said, “We shall worship your Ilāh, the Ilāh of your fathers, Ibrāhīm, Ismā’īl and Ishāq, One Ilāh and to Him we submit (in Islam).” (2:133).

“My son, take obedience to Allāh as trade. Profits will come to you without any merchandise”.
