Sunday: 17/10/44- 07/05/23:

Some points not covered in last night’s lesson.

⏺️ Shaking hands upon greeting a fellow Muslim.

It is legislated for a Muslim to shake the hand of his fellow Muslim brother when greeting him. This is from the sunnah, the proof being:

On the authority of Al-Barā (May Allāh be pleased with him) The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, "Two Muslims will not meet and shake hands without having their sins forgiven (by Allah ) before they depart." [Dāwūd, graded sahīh by Shaykh Al-Albānī in Sahīh Abī Dāwūd, 5212].

⏺️ How do we respond to a kāfir if they are to greet us?

☑️ We shouldn’t start with the greetings

☑️ If they are to greet us, we respond by saying: وعليكم. This is the position held by the majority of scholars.

The proof for the above is:

On the authority of Abū Hurairah (May Allāh be pleased with him) the messenger of Allāh ﷺsaid:
“Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it”. (Muslim)

On the authority of Anas bin Mālik (May Allāh be pleased with him)
the Prophet ﷺ said, "If the people of the book greet you, then you should say 'Wa'alaikum. " ( agreed upon)

Ibn Al-Qayyim rahimahullāh said:

“And do not think that His ‎ﷻ statement:

*“Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure, And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire”.*
(Infitār, 13/14).

Is specific only to the day of returning (to Allāh), rather they (the righteous) are in blessings in their three abodes (Dunya, grave and the hereafter) and those (the wicked) are in hell in their three abodes.

And what sweetness and blessing in the worldly life is more pleasant than righteousness of the heart, a clean chest (from envy, hatred etc), knowing the Lord ﷻ, loving Him and acting according to His approval.

_And is life in reality except life of the heart?_"

“Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord. And they who believe in the signs of their Lord. And they who do not associate anything with their Lord
And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord. It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein”. (23:57-61)

At-Tirmidhī (3175, graded Sahīh by Al-Albaānī in Sahīh At-Tirmidhī) and other report on the authority of ‘Āisha (mother of the believers) may Allāh be pleased with her said:

"I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this verse: “And those who give that which they give with their hearts full of fear... (23:60)" 'Aishah said: "Are they those who drink alcohol and steal?" He said: "No, O daughter of As-Siddīq. They are those who fast, pray and give charity while they fear that their Lord will not accept it from them: “It is these who hasten to do good deeds, and they are the foremost of them (23:61).”

Allāh ‎ﷻ also said:
“And [mention] when Ibrāhīm was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ismā’īl, [saying], "Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing”. (2:127)

Ibn Kathīr says in his tafsīr of this verse:

(Our Lord, accept [this] from us) “They are carrying out a righteous action and are asking Allāh to accept it from them as Ibn Abī Hātim reported on the authority of Wuhayb Bin Ward that he recited this verse then cried whilst saying: “O Khalīl Ar-Rahmān! (the intimate friend of Ar-Rahmān) you are raising the foundations of the house of Ar-Rahmān and fear that it will not be accepted from you.

In a time of fitnah where many people rush to record and post everything they do, we should remind ourselves to give great importance to why we are carrying out these actions and for whom.

Allāh ‎ﷻ said:
"Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].

‘Alī may Allāh be pleased with him would say: “Give more importance to your actions being accepted than carrying out the action and he then went on to mention the above verse”. (Ibn Abī Dunyā, the book of sincerity and the intention, pg39).

We ask Allāh that He grants us sincerity in speech and action.
