"I saw Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak coming out from the presence of Sufyān ibn Uyaynah, happy and cheerful. Someone asked him about that, and he said: 'Why shouldn't I be happy? Ibn Uyaynah narrated forty ḥadīths to me and fed me khabees (a sweet made of dates and butter).'"

“Learn knowledge, understand it, and benefit from it. Do not learn it merely to beautify yourselves with it.

For it is likely, if your life is prolonged, that people will adorn themselves with knowledge just as a man adorns himself with his clothes.”

"Do not belittle a small coin (fils) by which Allah is obeyed in its earning. It is not the coin that is sought, rather the obedience (to Allah) is what is sought. Perhaps you will buy with it some vegetables/greens, and it will not settle in your stomach until you are forgiven."
