Advice from Ash-Shaykh Ibn Uthaymīn to a Young Man at the Beginning of Istiqāmah
1. He should always ask Allāh for steadfastness and correctness.
2. He should frequently read the Qur’an with reflection.
3. He should be diligent in maintaining acts of obedience.
4. He should make sure to accompany righteous friends.
5. He should advise himself whenever he feels his soul being influenced.
6. He should stay away from bad company.

Many of the Companions رضي الله عنهم prohibited drinking alcohol upon themselves during the pre-Islamic era (Jāhiliyyah).Among them was Abū Bakr Al-Ṣiddīq رضي الله عنه.
Aisha رضي الله عنها said: "Abū Bakr prohibited alcohol upon himself, so he did not drink it in Jāhiliyyah nor in Islam. And that was because he passed by a man who was drunk, placing his hands in excrement (i.e feces) and bringing it close to his mouth. When he detected its smell, he turned away from it. Abū Bakr said, 'This man doesn't know what he's doing.'"

Al-'Allāmah Ibn Bāz rahimahullāh was asked regarding the ruling of one who says to his : “You are like my sister,” without intending to make her forbidden (to himself);
Answer: This differs according to his intention. If he said to his wife, “You are like my sister” or “like my mother” from the angle of respect, the angle of honoring her, meaning as a form of appreciation for her, then this is not forbidden and there is nothing upon him. But it is better to avoid this; it should be avoided because it causes confusion. He should not use this expression with her.
However, if he intended to make her forbidden—meaning she is forbidden (to him) like his sister, or that she is forbidden like his mother, or like his daughter, this is the well-known ẓihār (declaring his wife forbidden upon him like close kin), and upon him is the expiation (kaffārah) of ẓihār, which is arranged in order by the text of the Qur’an.
