‎Imām Ibn al-Qayyim rahimahu’Allah said:

‎“According to the servant’s adherence to the command, the armies of desire are repelled from him—just as Allah the Most High said:

‎“Verily, the prayer restrains from immorality and wrongdoing.”

‎[Surah al-ʿAnkabūt • 29:45]

‎“Indeed, Allah defends those who believe.”

‎[Surah al-Ḥajj • 22:38]

‎“And in another recitation: ⟪يَدْفَعُ⟫ — He repels.

‎So the completeness of defense and repulsion is according to the strength and weakness of faith.”

Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullāh said: “When there is weakness among the Muslims, and their enemy has the upper hand over them, it is due to their sins and transgressions—
whether from their neglect in fulfilling obligatory duties, both inwardly and outwardly, or from their overstepping of the prescribed limits, both in private and in public.”
