Imām Ibn al-Qayyim rahimahu’Allah said:
“According to the servant’s adherence to the command, the armies of desire are repelled from him—just as Allah the Most High said:
⟪إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ تَنْهَىٰ عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنكَرِ⟫
“Verily, the prayer restrains from immorality and wrongdoing.”
[Surah al-ʿAnkabūt • 29:45]
⟪إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُدَافِعُ عَنِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا⟫
“Indeed, Allah defends those who believe.”
[Surah al-Ḥajj • 22:38]
“And in another recitation: ⟪يَدْفَعُ⟫ — He repels.
So the completeness of defense and repulsion is according to the strength and weakness of faith.”
