It’s December, the season of giving!

Last Saturday, GUI had the pleasure of hosting two organisations — Bureau Veritas and Netherlands Charity Association. They came to our Kampung for their CSR programmes at different time of the day yet both came with the same purpose, which is to give back to the community ❤️

During our “Food with Love” programme with Bureau Veritas, we harvested a total of about 34kg of farm produce which were then packed and sent to a community fridge, run by @fffaspore, that serves approximately 200 low-income households in Yishun.

The Netherlands Charity Association (NCA) also did something a little different than usual for their CSR programme. Titled “Teens for Toys”, this programme is part of their NCA Care Week, which has the objective to improve the life of children with parents in prison.

Never diminish the efforts that you put in because many hands make light work 🙌🏼 A group of kind-hearted people from Manitou Asia came down our Kampung to turn used woods into a work-of-art and gifted it over to their friends over at SASCO @ Khatib Community Garden 🥰

Happy New Year!

2022 might be the last year for our current space which we affectionately call “home”. Is the community prepared to move? Are we ready to handle what’s to come?

Our late founder Lai Hock had once said that we can only be as ready as our hearts can be.

We want to be prepared and we want to be ready. As such, we hope for a big, grateful and unity heart in the new year!

Today is the eve of the Chinese New Year (除夕chú xī) when most of the Chinese families will be having the reunion dinners. The traditional Chinese believe that the reunion dinner (团圆饭 tuán yuán fàn) is the most important meal of the year as it signifies solidarity of a family, as well as its cohesiveness.

Family connectedness is the overarching theme of Chinese New Year. Therefore, if you are unable to go home or if anyone in your family is unable to come back for the reunion dinner, we urge you to take some time to stay connected with your family through video calls.

On another note, the Kampung Kampus will be closed from 31 Jan to 4 Feb as part of the festivities 🧧. We would like to thank our volunteers for helping us to water the plants and to feed the chickens during this period! 😘

We wish those who celebrate the Chinese New Year “Gong Xi Fa Cai” and happy holidays to everyone! 恭祝大家虎年吉祥、万事如意、快乐跟随、健康常在!🍊🍊

GUI models a way to live with our 5Gs values, and one of the Gs is Green. As such, we practice 6Rs. We believe everyone should
1) 💭RETHINK first,
2) REFUSE mainstream consumption habits,
3) ⛔️REDUCE wastage,
4) 🔁REUSE items in good condition wherever possible and
5) 🔨REPAIR damaged items before we
6) ♻️RECYCLE the materials. Recycling should always be the last option.
Nonetheless, happy Global Recycling Day (18 March), everyone!

Today is Earth Day (22 April). It’s also our 14th birthday!

Last Saturday, we celebrated our birthday in advance by inviting a group of elderly to our kampung to join us in our give-back celebration. We could tell that the elderly were truly happy through their smiles and words of appreciation.

This would not have been possible without Mr Chua Wah Ann and his dedicated team of Project Starfish volunteers. Their generosity makes us rich with love that we want to spread and reach out to more communities in need.

GUI is eternally grateful to the heartfelt support and gracious help from so many people whom we have connected with. May this be a reminder for us to continue to show care for one another as we celebrate another trip made around the sun.
