โš ๏ธ ANNOUNCEMENT โš ๏ธ
The latest SMMs kicked in today (27 Sep). The authority has given us the go-ahead to run programmes with a cap of 50 with the measures that the participants work in groups of 2, wear masks at all times, keep at least 1-metre social distance and avoid mingling as much as we can. Pre-registration for all our programmes is needed as we do not accept walk-ins, which might jeopardise our efforts to keep our community safe.

We sincerely appreciate your support despite this challenging time. You can also support GUI financially by becoming one of our patrons - bit.ly/guipatron

We also look forward to receive your feedback on ways we can brave through this arduous period together - bit.ly/Contact_GUI

We hope for everyone to stay safe and healthy during this period. โค๏ธ

โ€œLook deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.โ€ โ€” Albert Einstein

Last week, the GUI team concluded our rooftop farming Service Learning series with NorthLight School. Despite the short time spent together, our trainers are still very grateful to have been able to impart botanical knowledge to the secondary 1 students at NorthLight ๐ŸŒฑ Just like the plants, we hope that the students will bloom where they are planted ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒป

โ€œYou never quite know what you do in life that leaves a seed behind that grows into an oak tree.โ€ โ€” Michael Portillo

It warms our hearts to see Ibnur crediting our late founder, Lai Hock for being one of his inspirations. Lai Hock planted many seeds; one of them has blossomed well, he is none other than Ibnur who was amongst 17 people to receive the NUS' Outstanding Young Alumni Award last Friday (5 Nov 2021).

Itโ€™s December, the season of giving!

Last Saturday, GUI had the pleasure of hosting two organisations โ€” Bureau Veritas and Netherlands Charity Association. They came to our Kampung for their CSR programmes at different time of the day yet both came with the same purpose, which is to give back to the community โค๏ธ

During our โ€œFood with Loveโ€ programme with Bureau Veritas, we harvested a total of about 34kg of farm produce which were then packed and sent to a community fridge, run by @fffaspore, that serves approximately 200 low-income households in Yishun.

The Netherlands Charity Association (NCA) also did something a little different than usual for their CSR programme. Titled โ€œTeens for Toysโ€, this programme is part of their NCA Care Week, which has the objective to improve the life of children with parents in prison.

Never diminish the efforts that you put in because many hands make light work ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ A group of kind-hearted people from Manitou Asia came down our Kampung to turn used woods into a work-of-art and gifted it over to their friends over at SASCO @ Khatib Community Garden ๐Ÿฅฐ

Happy New Year!

2022 might be the last year for our current space which we affectionately call โ€œhomeโ€. Is the community prepared to move? Are we ready to handle whatโ€™s to come?

Our late founder Lai Hock had once said that we can only be as ready as our hearts can be.

We want to be prepared and we want to be ready. As such, we hope for a big, grateful and unity heart in the new year!

Today is the eve of the Chinese New Year (้™คๅค•chรบ xฤซ) when most of the Chinese families will be having the reunion dinners. The traditional Chinese believe that the reunion dinner (ๅ›ขๅœ†้ฅญ tuรกn yuรกn fร n) is the most important meal of the year as it signifies solidarity of a family, as well as its cohesiveness.

Family connectedness is the overarching theme of Chinese New Year. Therefore, if you are unable to go home or if anyone in your family is unable to come back for the reunion dinner, we urge you to take some time to stay connected with your family through video calls.

On another note, the Kampung Kampus will be closed from 31 Jan to 4 Feb as part of the festivities ๐Ÿงง. We would like to thank our volunteers for helping us to water the plants and to feed the chickens during this period! ๐Ÿ˜˜

We wish those who celebrate the Chinese New Year โ€œGong Xi Fa Caiโ€ and happy holidays to everyone!
