GUI wishes Happy Teachers' Day to all the teachers who have inspired and nurtured as in one way or another. As we celebrate the greatness of our teachers today, let’s also celebrate our greatest teacher - Mother Nature. 🌱🌿🍀🌺❤️

The meaning behind “living your best life” has evolved. A true quality lifestyle requires a holistic approach, including advocacy for environmental concerns and mental wellness. Join one of GUI’s Founding Members, Ms Tan Chia Chia and 3 other speakers in a webinar that aims to address these key challenges and more.

Come join our GUI volunteer, Susan McGinney, every Saturday* morning for a fun and easy-going yoga workout! 🧘🏼‍♀️☀️🌱 This is an all levels class so poses and exercises can be modified to suit your needs and abilities. Remember to bring your own yoga mat, towel and water bottle.

Susan understands that it can be difficult to find a sitter and commute back and forth, so she welcomes all participants to bring your family together with you! Children can practice alongside on their own mats or sit nearby and rest or play. The idea is to move your bodies in an outdoor space and get yourselves comfortable in a social setting.

*Classes will begin on 25th September 2021

A big thank you to XCEL and its local sustainable brand, CREUSE for donating their used wooden pallets to us! We turned them into planter beds 💫🌱😄

⚠️ ANNOUNCEMENT ⚠️
The latest SMMs kicked in today (27 Sep). The authority has given us the go-ahead to run programmes with a cap of 50 with the measures that the participants work in groups of 2, wear masks at all times, keep at least 1-metre social distance and avoid mingling as much as we can. Pre-registration for all our programmes is needed as we do not accept walk-ins, which might jeopardise our efforts to keep our community safe.

We sincerely appreciate your support despite this challenging time. You can also support GUI financially by becoming one of our patrons - bit.ly/guipatron

We also look forward to receive your feedback on ways we can brave through this arduous period together - bit.ly/Contact_GUI

We hope for everyone to stay safe and healthy during this period. ❤️

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” — Albert Einstein

Last week, the GUI team concluded our rooftop farming Service Learning series with NorthLight School. Despite the short time spent together, our trainers are still very grateful to have been able to impart botanical knowledge to the secondary 1 students at NorthLight 🌱 Just like the plants, we hope that the students will bloom where they are planted 🌺🌸🌻

“You never quite know what you do in life that leaves a seed behind that grows into an oak tree.” — Michael Portillo

It warms our hearts to see Ibnur crediting our late founder, Lai Hock for being one of his inspirations. Lai Hock planted many seeds; one of them has blossomed well, he is none other than Ibnur who was amongst 17 people to receive the NUS' Outstanding Young Alumni Award last Friday (5 Nov 2021).

It’s December, the season of giving!

Last Saturday, GUI had the pleasure of hosting two organisations — Bureau Veritas and Netherlands Charity Association. They came to our Kampung for their CSR programmes at different time of the day yet both came with the same purpose, which is to give back to the community ❤️

During our “Food with Love” programme with Bureau Veritas, we harvested a total of about 34kg of farm produce which were then packed and sent to a community fridge, run by @fffaspore, that serves approximately 200 low-income households in Yishun.

The Netherlands Charity Association (NCA) also did something a little different than usual for their CSR programme. Titled “Teens for Toys”, this programme is part of their NCA Care Week, which has the objective to improve the life of children with parents in prison.

A planter cage made by Uncle Lee. The owner painted together with his children as a family project. :)

Never diminish the efforts that you put in because many hands make light work 🙌🏼 A group of kind-hearted people from Manitou Asia came down our Kampung to turn used woods into a work-of-art and gifted it over to their friends over at SASCO @ Khatib Community Garden 🥰
