AAU Graduate Admision Test ( GAT) Brochure

Information on the AAU Graduate Admission Test (GAT)
1) Applicants are required to take the AAU’s Graduate Admission Test (GAT) and meet the minimum passing requirements.
2) Information about the GAT can be obtained from the Institute for Educational Research's Telegram channel, Testing Center_IER_AAU, accessible through the link  https://t.me/aauGAT
3) The application and test dates for the Graduate Admission Test (GAT) are September 05 to September 11, 2024. Priority will be given to those who register for the GAT as early as possible.
4) To register for the GAT, please follow the steps below:
         a. Visit  https://Portal.aau.edu.et [Open]
         b. Click on the exam application
         c. Fill out the Test Taker Registration form
         d. Upload a passport-size photo of the test taker
         e. Click submit
          f. Copy the generated number
          g. The GAT testing fee of 1000 birr should be paid using Tele Birr. Foreign applicants are required to pay the equivalent of USD 50 in Ethiopian Birr.
          h. Once payment is made, please download and print your Admission Ticket, which is necessary for admission to the exam hall.
          i. Stay updated with further announcements on the Telegram channel, Testing Center_IER_AAU (https://t.me/aauGAT)
5) The test will be conducted electronically, and general information about the exam can be found on the aforementioned Telegram channel.
6) Applicants should check the Telegram channel daily from the date of application for updates on the test venue, date, and time.
7) If a test taker fails to appear on the scheduled test date due to various reasons, they may be required to pay to sit for the subsequent test schedule.
8) Applicants who have obtained GAT results from the previous year must retake the test. Previous GAT results cannot be used for the current application.

The National Graduate Admission Test (NGAT) evaluates candidates on three main cognitive skills: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical reasoning. Here's what each of them entails:

1. Verbal Reasoning

✔️ Measures the ability to understand, analyze, and interpret written material.
✔️ Involves identifying relationships between words, understanding logical arguments, and evaluating written passages.
• Example question types:
✅ Reading comprehension (answering questions about a passage)
✅ Sentence completion (choosing the correct word/phrase)
✅ Analogies (finding word relationships)

2. Quantitative Reasoning
✔️ Assesses numerical problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning.
✔️Tests knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
• Example question types:
👉 Solving equations and inequalities
👉 Interpreting graphs and charts
👉 Word problems involving percentages, ratios, and probability

3. Analytical Reasoning
✔️Evaluates logical thinking and the ability to analyze complex scenarios.
✔️Involves recognizing patterns, drawing conclusions, and solving logical puzzles.
Example question types:
👉Logical sequences (identifying the next step in a pattern)
👉Syllogisms (deductive reasoning problems)
👉Arrangements and puzzles (ordering items based on given conditions)
