We are honored to celebrate the remarkable leadership, vision, and lifelong dedication of Mr. Mesfin Tasew, who was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines in March 2022.

From his early years, Mr. Mesfin demonstrated discipline, integrity, and a passion for learning. He was known as a committed, well mannered, and high achieving student who loved his country and pursued excellence at every stage of his life.

Mr. Mesfin’s professional journey with Ethiopian Airlines began in 1984 when he joined the organization as an Associate Engineer. Through hard work, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the airline’s mission, he steadily rose through the ranks, holding key supervisory and managerial positions in Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering. In 1997, he was appointed Director of Operations and Technical Systems Support, and in 1999, he became Chief Information Officer. In 2006, he advanced to the role of Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering.

From 2010 to 2021, Mr. Mesfin served with distinction as Chief Operating Officer of Ethiopian Airlines. In this capacity, he played a central role in strengthening the airline’s operational performance, safety standards, fleet expansion, and global competitiveness. During his tenure as Chief Operating Officer, Ethiopian Airlines expanded to new international destinations and modernized its fleet with new aircraft types, contributing to the airline’s reputation as Africa’s fastest growing global carrier.

In April 2021, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of ASKY Airlines, where he provided strategic leadership, improved operational performance, and strengthened regional partnerships before returning to Ethiopian Airlines as Group Chief Executive Officer in 2022.

Under Mr. Mesfin’s leadership, Ethiopian Airlines has received numerous international awards and recognitions for excellence in safety, service quality, and industry leadership. These honors, along with personal accolades he has received for his outstanding leadership and contributions to aviation in Africa and beyond, reflect his unwavering commitment to excellence and the success of the airline.

Beyond his leadership at Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Mesfin serves as a valued member of the International Air Transport Association Board of Governors, where he contributes to global aviation policy, safety standards, and strategic collaboration among world airlines. His guidance and expertise help shape the future of international air transport.

Academically, Mr. Mesfin holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from Addis Ababa University, and a Master of Business Administration from the Open University in the United Kingdom. Throughout his academic life, from high school to university, he was recognized for his strong intellect, excellent grades, discipline, and deep love for his country.

Mr. Mesfin Tasew is widely respected as an intelligent professional, an inspiring leader, and a visionary Chief Executive Officer. Under his guidance, Ethiopian Airlines has achieved significant milestones, expanded its global footprint to new continents and destinations, improved operational efficiency, and strengthened its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and customer service excellence. His accomplishments reflect not only personal excellence but also a deep commitment to the success of the airline, the welfare of its employees, and the socio economic development of Ethiopia and Africa.

My brother, Firaol Megersa, was born in Gimbi, Wollega, in the Oromia region. He is a testament to the idea that anyone can achieve great things, regardless of their background. After years of dedication, he has been serving as a First Officer (co-pilot) with Ethiopian Airlines for just over a year.

An exceptional and dedicated individual, he is well-known among aspiring aviators for generously sharing his knowledge and guidance through live streaming sessions, often hosting and preparing these sessions with other flight crew members. He has also served as an admin for the Future Aviators group/channel for several years and continues to mentor and support others. In the video below, he shares a brief yet valuable piece of advice for you.

✈️ Neerja Bhanot The Flight Attendant Who Became a Hero 💙

Dear Future Aviators Family, today we remember a beautiful soul whose courage and kindness showed the world the true meaning of being cabin crew. Flight attendants are not just there to serve, they are protectors of safety, calm leaders in difficult moments, and sometimes lifesavers. No one showed this more truly than Neerja Bhanot.

On September 5, 1986, Pan Am Flight 73 was on the ground in Karachi when four armed terrorists hijacked the aircraft. Their aim was to take control and target passengers, especially Americans.

Neerja stayed calm, brave, and focused.

She quickly alerted the cockpit crew, allowing the pilots to escape and preventing the aircraft from taking off.
She and her fellow crew hid passengers’ passports to protect them from being identified.
She moved gently through the cabin, comforting passengers and helping them stay calm in a moment filled with fear.

After nearly 17 hours, the situation became tragic when the hijackers opened fire.

In those final moments, Neerja did not think of herself. She thought only of others.

She opened emergency exits and helped passengers escape to safety.
She stayed behind to help, especially children who needed protection.
She was fatally shot while shielding passengers and lost her life during the hijacking 🥹💔 giving everything so that many others could live.

Because of her bravery, more than 350 people survived.

For her incredible courage, Neerja was awarded the Ashoka Chakra, becoming its youngest recipient at the time. She was also honored by other countries for her bravery.

Neerja’s story is not just history, it is a lesson and an inspiration.

This profession is not only about serving meals or smiling at passengers. It is about responsibility, courage, and caring for lives in the most difficult moments.

To every future cabin crew member, carry this spirit with you. Stay calm, be brave, and always care deeply for every life on board.

Be careful about what you say during the interview, because most of the questions will come from your own answers. Usually, the interview starts with “Tell me about yourself,” and from that point, the interviewers will ask many follow-up questions based on your introduction. That’s why interviews are sometimes considered subjective. One cadet’s experience can be completely different from another’s, since the questions depend on what you say and how you interact.

After your introduction, expect the interview to continue with questions directly related to your responses.

So, think before you speak and try to express yourself clearly and confidently. Always be ready for follow-up questions.

It is also important to have a basic understanding of Ethiopian Airlines and the key concepts related to the position you applied for. For example, if you are applying as a trainee School of Marketing (SOM) cadet, you should be familiar with ideas like the 4Ps of marketing and the basics of customer service, including understanding what customer service really means. Most importantly, expect many follow-up questions based on what you say.

Remember, your introduction sets the tone for the entire interview. Most of the questions will come from it. So stay calm, avoid fear, and be confident. The way you present yourself at the beginning can shape the rest of the conversation.

Also, do not rely too much on memorizing common or past interview questions. You might prepare 15 or 20 questions, but if something different comes up, you could feel nervous or lose confidence. Instead, prepare yourself more broadly. Be ready to handle different kinds of questions, especially follow-up questions based on what you say. What worked for someone else may not work for you, and the exact questions you practiced may not even appear.

For group discussions, it is okay to practice with common or sample topics. They can help you build confidence and improve your communication skills. However, do not depend too much on them, because the actual discussion topic may be completely different.

Do not depend only on one document, past interview questions, or previously shared group discussion topics. If things turn out differently, do not feel disappointed or lose confidence.

Instead, prepare yourself to handle unexpected questions, especially follow-up questions based on your own answers. Learn to think on your feet and respond calmly and confidently.
