This day in history - the First World War began.
On June 28, 1914, the heir of Austria-Hungary, Franz Ferdinand, was killed. This led to the July crisis and attempts to solve something peacefully. It didn't work out - on July 28, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Russia has announced the protection of the country. And as a result, a complex system of alliances led to the most destructive conflict in history at that time.

Wealthy family, 1910s, Monrovia, Liberia.
In the 20s of the XIX century, freedom fighters of oppressed Blacks in the United States organized a movement to return freed African slaves to their descendants' homeland. So the State of Liberia arose.
American Negroes, returning to Africa, seized a significant part of the territory from the local tribes in west Africa and ... turned them into slavery.
The descendants of slaves who were once taken to America carefully copied the American way of life and became slave owners themselves.

Many are surprised by the fact that Pope Benedict XVI served in Nazi Germany.
Joseph Alois Ratzinger, in 1941 he joined the "Hitler Youth". Later he became a soldier of the anti-aircraft battalion. In 1944, he joined the Austrian Legion, an air defense auxiliary personnel unit in Munich. He survived the war and became Pope Benedict XVI.

When Leonardo da Vinci wrote The Last Supper, he attached special importance to two figures: Christ and Judas. For a very long time he could not find sitters from whom he could paint these figures.
Finally, he managed to find a model for the image of Christ among the young singers. It was not possible to find a model for Leonardo's Judas for three years.
Until one day he came across a drunkard lying in the gutter on the street. He was a young man who had grown old from heavy drinking. Leonardo invited him to a tavern, where he immediately began to paint Judas from him. When the drunk regained consciousness, he told the artist that he had already posed for him once. It was a few years ago, when he sang in the church choir, Leonardo painted Christ from him.
The Last Supper, 1495-1498

British Airways Flight 5390 – when the pilot is half out of the cockpit
The flight was sent on June 10, 1990 from Birmingham to Spain. In flight, the cockpit windshield burst. The captain immediately flew out through the opening, and his back was pressed against the fuselage from the outside. Lancaster's feet were stuck between the steering wheel and the control panel. The plane just sat down – with the pilot half sticking out of the cockpit. To prevent the pilot from finally flying out of the plane, the steward had to hold the captain's legs until the landing. The flight attendant holding the pilot believed that he was dead, but did not let go, because he was afraid that the body would get into the engine and it would burn, reducing the chances of the liner landing safely.
