A 5,000-year-old image found in Altai and signed "Manaka" is a deity of the Turks.

In Hinduism, there is the goddess of fertility Manasa, a woman with seven snakes around her head.

A similar "hydra" Chicomecoatl is painted in temples throughout Mexico, as an inheritance from the Aztecs.

This day in history is May 19, 1845, the Franklin Expedition began.

They tried to conquer the Arctic even then. Sir John Franklin on the ships Erebus and Terror left the English city of Greenhite in order to find the northern sea route between Europe and Asia. Unfortunately, the ships of that time were poorly adapted to traveling in the ice. The mission disappeared, and its search dragged on until 2016. Only then did the specialists find the Terror ship. Erebus was found a little earlier, in 2014. Is it worth mentioning about the monstrous fate of the crews. Analysis of the remains showed cases of scurvy, murder and even cannibalism.

Bootleggers. USA, 1925

Bootleggers - sellers and suppliers of alcohol during the years of prohibition in the United States. There were 5 times more women among them than men. The fact is that in many states there was a law prohibiting the search of women, which criminal syndicates did not fail to take advantage of. And women came to bootlegging on their own very willingly: with all the danger of the enterprise, earnings could be fantastic.

In the Middle Ages, those convicted of a crime were subjected to ordeal ("God's judgment", or trial by water and fire). In one of the variants of the trial, the convict had to lower his hand into boiling water — if the hand remained unburned, it meant that God protected him, and the person was released.
