A man looks at his five-year-old daughter's hands, cut off as punishment for a poorly done job collecting rubber. In 1885-1908, the Congo was the personal possession of King Leopold II of Belgium, during which years a brutal regime with a private army and labor service flourished in the country. Often, in order to force local residents to work, the colony authorities took women and children hostage and held them under arrest throughout the rubber harvest season.

Shortly before the Cuban Missile Crisis, mutual trolling of pilots almost led to a disaster.

The Soviet Tu-95 missile carrier was flying off the coast of Cuba and ran into a US aircraft carrier. From where the interceptor immediately took off, he asked the Tu-95 to open the bomb racks to make sure they were empty. And I decided to troll by showing my own air-to-air missiles, which, unlike the Tu-95 weapons, were in place.

In response, the Tu-95 pilots also decided to make a joke. They pretended to be detained and "started" the standard boarding procedure at such moments.

But the wingspan of the Tu-95 is more than 80 meters, and it is, to put it mildly, wider than an aircraft carrier - panic and emergency signals began on it, refusing landing.

The Tu-95 naturally turned around and flew away, and since then the story has been embellished ten times and served with its own sauce on both sides.

A man checks his e-mail through a public phone using a Panasonic RL-P4001.

This device was a portable computer that, when connected to a telephone network, allowed access to a semblance of the Internet that existed in that era.

The transition from foraging to agriculture has made our teeth weaker - you've probably heard that tooth decay, bite problems, and other joys of life in the form of wisdom teeth have been a pile of problems for 11,000 years.

But there is another nuance - scientists have proved that without this transition, our speech would be completely different.

A complete change in bite after switching to soft food changed the structure of the jaw - and allowed us to pronounce the sounds "F" and "V". This diversified human speech and opened the way to advanced languages and writing.

On March 3, 1943, 173 people were killed in a stampede at the Bethnal Green air raid shelter in Britain.

After the air raid alert was announced, too many people tried to get under protection and the crush became deadly.

Germany did not drop any bombs on London that day.

I've often been asked, "What's my favorite car?" and I've always replied, "Next."

Carroll Shelby, an automotive engineer.

It doesn't matter if you create cars or use them, the main thing is to love them and strive to improve your level all the time.

The Aldgate Death Pump.

Since the 16th century, the pump stood in London and was known for its mineral-rich spring water. This continued until 1876, when calcium from human bones was found in water samples.

As it turned out, the spring had washed away nearby cemeteries and the water literally contained human remains.

While this was being investigated, people continued to drink water and an epidemic began - hundreds of people died after drinking tainted water.
