Reminder that calculating inflation is pseudoscience; there is no genuine way to evaluate how many 2025 dollars a 2000 dollar is worth. It simply cannot be done, and your thinking will be clearer if you stop pretending like it can be.
Surely he's exaggerating... There's no way people would prefer that one (with a 50 year mortgage and a normal price) to the other one for free... That he didn't give an amount or a monthly payment is a hint that this is wrong.
As much as I like making fun of the inability of normal people to think about this stuff, this is too far and simply unrealistic. Normal people may not be worthy of voting, but they're not this dumb.

You heard it here, folks: the Nazis were the Indians of their day.
There's a whole category of (genuinely terrifying) science fiction that basically boils down to, "What if the 6-7 meme was evil?"
Reportedly this needs an explanation. If you or your kids have not yet been infected, 6-7 is a meme where all of the kids all over the world suddenly and simultaneously think the numbers 6 and 7 in sequence have cosmic and hilarious significance whenever they appear.
The theme here is that something is taking over the population, characterized by some brand new inexplicable behavior, often spreading memetically, often only in children.
Zero hour by Ray Bradbury is a prime example but he has many stories somewhat like this.
There is No Antimemetics Division most immediately inspired it.
