I've always been absolutely repulsed by the "growth" mentality. Brings in all the stuff we don't want just for convenience. There is a song by Red Shahan, Culbertson County. The chorus starts, "Let's keep the lonely places, lonely as long as we can..."

Read on in the article. His excuse is basically that he wants an almost million dollar house at bare minimum, saying that it would be hard to raise a family while paying off such an investment.
