Europäer wenden sich gegen neues Gesetz zur Todesstrafe in Israel

Die Bundesregierung sowie die Regierungen von Großbritannien, Frankreich und Italien haben sich "zutiefst besorgt" über ein israelisches Gesetzesvorhaben zur Ausweitung der Todesstrafe geäußert. Besonders beunruhigend sei der "faktisch diskriminierende Charakter" des Entwurfs, betonten die Außenminister der vier Staaten in einer gemeinsamen Erklärung. Die für Montag geplante Verabschiedung des Gesetzes im Parlament drohe "Israels Bekenntnis zu demokratischen Prinzipien zu untergraben". Auch der Generalsekretär des Europarats appellierte an Israel, das Vorhaben nicht zu verabschieden.

Der Gesetzentwurf sieht die Todesstrafe vor für jeden, "der absichtlich oder durch Gleichgültigkeit den Tod eines israelischen Bürgers aus rassistischen Motiven oder aus Feindseligkeit gegenüber einer Gemeinschaft verursacht". Nach Einschätzung von Amnesty International würden die Regelungen de facto nur gegen Palästinenser angewendet. Im besetzten Westjordanland sollen Militärgerichte, die nur für Palästinenser zuständig sind, mit einfacher Mehrheit Todesurteile fällen können. Für israelische Siedler gelten diese Gerichte nicht.

Die Todesstrafe ist in Israel faktisch ausgesetzt – zuletzt wurde 1962 der NS-Verbrecher Adolf Eichmann hingerichtet. Mit der vom rechtsextremen Sicherheitsminister Itamar Ben Gvir vorangetriebenen Gesetzesänderung wäre die Todesstrafe für bestimmte Straftaten künftig verpflichtend vorgeschrieben. UN-Rechtsexperten warnten, dass Gerichten damit die Möglichkeit genommen würde, mildernde Umstände zu berücksichtigen. Sollte das Gesetz angenommen werden, dürfte es juristisch angefochten werden und vor dem Obersten Gericht landen.

Syriens Präsident Ahmed al-Scharaa hat die Darstellung von Kanzler Friedrich Merz öffentlich korrigiert. Die Aussage, 80% der in Deutschland lebenden Syrer sollten in den nächsten drei Jahren in ihre Heimat zurückkehren, stamme nicht von ihm, sagte al-Scharaa am Dienstagabend im Interview mit dem britischen Thinktank Chatham House. Es sei „etwas übertrieben“ – und ihm lediglich zugeschrieben worden. „Es war der Herr Kanzler, der diese Worte gesagt hat.“

Merz hatte die Marke von 80% auch nach wachsender Kritik am Dienstag verteidigt und betont, der syrische Präsident selbst habe sie genannt. Bereits bei der gemeinsamen Pressekonferenz am Montag in Berlin hatte der Kanzler erklärt, dies sei „der Wunsch von Präsident Scharaa“ gewesen.

Spanien unter Ministerpräsident Pedro Sanchez macht es richtig und hat seinen Luftraum für US-Flugzeuge gesperrt, die an Angriffen auf den Iran beteiligt sind. Ich finde Spanien ist das mutigste Land in Europa. Die amerikanische Öffentlichkeit lehnt Trumps illegalen Krieg gegen den Iran bereits massiv ab. Seit der Angriffskrieg von Israel und den USA am 28. Februar 2026 begann, ist ein Monat vergangen. Die USA haben am Persischen Golf Militärstützpunkte in Irak, Kuwait, Saudi-Arabien, Bahrain, Katar, den Emiraten und Oman. Der Iran fordert von den Golfstaaten, dass all diese US-Militärstützpunkte geschlossen werden, weil sie für den Angriff auf den Iran genutzt wurden. Die Golfstaaten wissen, dass der Iran ihre Erdgas- und Erdölinfrastruktur und die Entsalzungsanlagen mit Drohnen und Raketen zerstören kann. Trump sendet extrem widersprüchliche Signale: Zum einen preist Trump „glänzend verlaufende Verhandlungen“ mit dem Iran, die es aber gemäss dem Iran gar nicht gibt. Gleichzeitig lässt Trump US-Soldaten in die Region verlegen und droht mit einem Bodenkrieg. Ich finde die USA dürfen auf keinen Fall Bodentruppen schicken, das wäre ein Fiasko und würde den Krieg verlängern. In Somalia 1993 verliessen die USA nach dem Abschuss von zwei Black-Hawk-Helikoptern und dem Tod von 18 US-Soldaten überstürzt das Land. Trump hat sein Wahlversprechen gebrochen, die USA aus den „ewigen Kriegen“ herauszuhalten.

Die Bildsprache der Krake mit ihren Tentakeln wurde auch in antisemitischer Propaganda verwendet, besonders um Juden als angeblich weltumspannende, heimlich steuernde Macht darzustellen. Die Nazis und schon antisemitische Propaganda vor ihnen arbeiteten genau mit solchen Mustern:
nicht der konkrete Mensch, nicht die konkrete Politik, sondern das entgrenzte, vielarmige, bedrohliche Wesen, das überall hineinreicht und alles kontrolliert.

Darum ist der Punkt hier nicht bloß: „Da wird ein Gegner hart kritisiert.“
Der Punkt ist: Es wird auf eine historisch schwer belastete Form der Entmenschlichung zurückgegriffen.

Wichtig ist die Unterscheidung:

Man kann das iranische Regime, seine Regionalpolitik und seine Unterstützung bewaffneter Gruppen scharf kritisieren.
Aber wenn man dafür eine Monster-Metapher aus der klassischen Feindbild- und Hetzpropaganda benutzt, verlässt man die Ebene der politischen Analyse und geht in dämonisierende Bildpropaganda über.

Das macht die Sache nicht automatisch inhaltlich falsch. Aber es zeigt, wie hier gearbeitet wird: nicht erklärend, sondern emotional aufladend, vereinfachend und entmenschlichend.

Präzise formuliert:

Ja, diese Darstellungsform erinnert nicht zufällig an ältere antisemitische und totalitäre Propagandamuster. Gerade deshalb ist sie historisch und politisch hoch problematisch.

Wer Gegner als Krake mit Tentakeln darstellt, bedient sich einer Bildsprache, die tief in der Geschichte der Hetzpropaganda steckt, bis hin zur antisemitischen Dämonisierung. Das ist keine Aufklärung, sondern visuelle Feindbildproduktion.

Our Republic is currently fighting an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on behalf of Israel, a war that many sober analysts (e.g., Col. Douglas McGregor) say we have no reasonable chance of winning — not if “winning” means regime change. Mr. Trump was given very bad advice and took it.

Many have agitated for this war. The element I would like to address, because of its inherent theological ramifications, are the fanatical partisans of a heresy that has much of “conservative” Protestant America in its grips. Catholic commentators are not sufficiently addressing this reality. In fact, because of both the shallowness of American political discourse and the miserable state of catechesis, many “conservative” Catholics have had their minds corrupted by this same heresy, even if they do not accept it in its morbid totality.

Evangelical Christians make up almost one quarter of America’s adult population. Of these, 80% think that the birth of the modern State of Israel in 1948 and the gathering of millions of Jews there was a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy, and shows that we are getting closer to the return of Jesus Christ. Moreover, more white evangelicals than American Jews say God gave Israel to the Jewish people. Christian Zionist Evangelicals are very influential in “conservative” politics in America and are highly influential in Republican Party politics, especially in areas where they are more concentrated, i.e., various “Bible belt” locales. But they also have influence in national politics.

As a result of their efforts, American blood and treasure will be wasted in an effort to expand Israeli hegemony over the Middle East. The winners will be usurious bankers and other corrupt oligarchs who profit from the flow of arms and blood. The losers will be the innocent non-combatants, many of them children, in the path of destruction — including Christians, who are so very often the biggest losers of these useless Middle-Eastern wars that President Trump promised to stop. (Examples of Christians paying the price: Historically, we may point out the results of the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the net effect of which was to slash that nation’s Christian population by 80% in an effort to stop the non-existent WMD’s from being an existential threat against us. A current example is the suffering of Christians in Lebanon, another front of the US-Israeli war against Iran, where the Israelis are perpetrating actual war crimes. Lebanon has the largest Christian population in the Middle East, the highest percentage of whom are Maronite Catholics. Syrian Christians are also paying the price of US-Israeli meddling.)

What is Jewish Zionism?

Jewish Zionism is the effort to establish a Jewish State in the Holy Land. It can be traced back to the first half of the nineteenth century, in the thinking of Rabbi Yehudah Alkalai (1798-1878), whose theology of the “Third Redemption” insisted that Israel was not truly Israel unless the Jews dwell in the land of Israel. He therefore called for Jewish colonies in the Holy Land. Alkalai’s thought was rejected by many Jews who thought it impious to make the Messianic age dependent upon human activity.

Many Orthodox Jews to this day vociferously reject Zionism as anti-Messianic for reasons that will become obvious as I touch upon a little Zionist history. The Haredi Jewish organization, Neturei Karta, is one such group (in this very informative half-hour interview, Rabbi Dovid Feldman explains why Neturei Karta believes Judaism and Zionism are diametrically opposed for religious reasons). Heredi Jews are sometimes called “ultra-Orthodox” Jews (which they consider a pejorative), so they would be very “conservative” — or even “reactionary” as they are opposed to much of modernity. On the opposite extreme of the spectrum, there are also very liberal Jews who oppose Zionism for humanitarian reasons, i.e.

, because it represents a European colonial movement that displaced natives and continuously engages in ethnic cleansing and other atrocities.

After Alkalai, two of the leading Zionists are, chronologically, Moses Hess (1812-1875), who worked in the second half of the nineteenth century, and Theodore Herzl (1860-1904), who brings us into the twentieth century. Hess was the author of a very polemical book called Rome and Jerusalem in which he writes, “Papal Rome symbolizes to the Jews an inexhaustible well of poison. It is only with the drying up of this source that Christian German anti-Semitism will die from lack of nourishment” (p. 35). In another place, he says, “It is true that Christianity shed a certain glow during the dark ages of history… but its light only revealed the graves of the nations of antiquity. Christianity is, after all, a religion of death” (p. 35).

One thing that must be grasped about Zionism — and this is something “Christian Zionists” need to hear — is that many of its historical adherents have rejected not only the Messiah, Our Lord Jesus Christ, but the very idea of a personal Messiah as that idea was taught in the Old Testament. These Zionists contend that the Jewish Nation is the Messiah. It is for this reason that many Orthodox Jews consider Zionism a heresy. Thus, in Rome and Jerusalem, Moses Hess wrote that, “Every Jew has within him the potentiality of a Messiah and every Jewess that of a Mater Dolorosa” (p. 45). He further declares that because of the regeneration of the world since the great French Revolution, “The Messianic Era is the present age” (p. 138).

This Zionist notion that the Jewish Nation is itself the Messiah is also promoted in the work of Dr. Joseph Klausner (1874-1958), a leading Zionist intellectual and a candidate to be the State of Israel’s first president (he lost to Chaim Weizmann). His 1955 book, The Messianic Idea in Israel (p. 163), contains the following assertion: “Thus the whole people Israel, in the form of the elect of the nations, gradually became the Messiah of the world, the redeemer of mankind.”

Prominent as a leader of the Zionist movement after Moses Hess was Theodore Herzl (1860-1904), who toured Europe and elsewhere to promote Zionism to various heads of state. His skill proved itself in Italy, Germany, Turkey, and England. He even went to see the then-reigning head of Vatican City State, the beneficent Pope Saint Pius X, who told Herzl the following, according to Herzl’s own diary: “We cannot give approval to this movement. We cannot prevent the Jews from going to Jerusalem — but we could never sanction it. The soil of Jerusalem, if it was not always sacred, has been sanctified by the life of Jesus Christ. As the head of the Church I cannot tell you anything different. The Jews have not recognized our Lord, therefore we cannot recognize the Jewish people.”

With the events that followed the defeat of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, the Zionists had a chance to see their dreams for a modern Jewish State realized. The Sykes-Picot agreement (1916) and the Balfour Declaration (1917) were the key diplomatic instruments — if they may be called such — that made Jewish colonization of Palestine possible.

What is Christian Zionism?

Christian Zionism is another nineteenth-century movement, which holds that Christians have an obligation to help the Jews return to Palestine so that “Israel” can be reconstituted to prepare for the coming of Christ and His thousand-year reign on earth.

The movement grew out of a fringe Protestant heresy called Dispensational Premillennialism, or Dispensationalism. Its most avid evangelist was the English Plymouth Brethren minister, John Nelson Darby, of whom I wrote here, but the chief salesman of the movement was the American huckster, Cyrus I. Scofield, whose “Scofield Reference Bible,” also discussed in that same piece, popularized the heresy in American Evangelical circles.

The core belief of dispensationalism is the radical separation of “Israel” and “Church” such that the concepts do not overlap.

In the seven dispensations of dispensationalism, we are in the sixth, the “Church age,” or “Grace.” This is a period between the Jewish dispensation of “The Law” (the fifth) and the Millennial Kingdom of Christ (the seventh) — a literal one-thousand year reign of Jesus Christ on earth. Some dispensationalists explain this as “a parenthesis” between essentially Jewish dispensations, which shows how devalued the Christian Church is in their heretical worldview (it gets worse; keep reading!).

Over at the Fisheaters site, Tracy Tucciarone has a great piece called “Dispensationalism, Israel, & the Church,” wherein she thus summarizes the bizarreness of the heresy: “God promises Jewish people an earthly kingdom to be ruled by Messiah.” She continues in the following bulleted points:

• “The Messiah comes to offer Jews their earthly kingdom that would establish Jewish law throughout the land, but Jews reject Him, so the promise is postponed.
• “But the Church develops, an unforeseen consequence of the Messiah’s Coming, and the Church Age, or the ‘Parenthesis Period’ as far as God’s plan for ‘Israel’ goes, begins (i.e., the ‘parenthesis’ is the ‘pause’ in God’s ‘real’ plan, which is for ethnic Jews).
• “At some point, out of the clear blue, with no warnings, the Christ will come to rapture up the Church.
• “The Rapture will be followed by the Tribulation and appearance of the Antichrist.
• “Then 144,000 Jews preach the Gospel.
• “After things heat up, the Battle of Armageddon will occur.
• “Christ will come a third time, which will bring on an instant conversion of ‘all Israel.’
• “God will set up His Millennial Kingdom and bind Satan. For ethnic Jews, this Kingdom will be on earth, in the natural order and with a restoration of Temple sacrifices; for the Church, its members and the resurrected Saints go to the Heavenly Jerusalem, suspended over the earthly city.
• “Satan is loosed for a season and a revolt by some will follow.
• “Christ comes again (a fourth time!) for the final judgment, more resurrections, and a new Heaven and a new earth.”

This blasphemous nonsense that separates the “Kingdom of Christ” and “Israel” from the Church is an historical anomaly. Catholics never believed it in the true Church’s bimillennial tradition. The Orthodox do not believe it. Not even the early Protestants believed it. Like Darwinism, it is a quaint nineteenth-century theory that has infected people’s intellects like a mind virus.

But because the “Church dispensation” — which we are now supposedly in — is a parenthesis between two essentially Jewish dispensations, we Gentiles are something of a hiccup in the divine matrix. This explains why some dispensationalist “Christian pastors” tell their own people that Jews are superior to them — really! The Biblical truth is that we are all called to unity in the Mystical Body of Christ, the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church — which is also the True Israel.

By stark contrast to the Christian Zionists, we Catholics believe that the Jews are “dear for the sake of their fathers” (Rom. 11:28), that they very much have a place in the Divine Plan, and that there will be an eventual corporate conversion of the Jewish people. Furthermore, we believe that they cannot be saved unless they accept Jesus Christ and His Mystical Body. So, in charity, pious Catholics pray and work for the conversion of the Jews, which is not merely an eschatological event, but a personal encounter with Truth-in-Person that many Jews throughout history have made.

The present war is igniting a domestic battle between Catholics with our true dogma and our prudent and wise just war doctrine against the bellicose partisans of this heresy and others — even Catholics — who have been infected by it. This is a battle for the soul of America. We must pray and work to win this battle.

In the next Ad Rem, I hope to explore other topics related to this battle of ideas, including the extent to which Christian Zionists actually fund anti-Christian violence in Palestine, as well as whether anti-Zionism constitutes antisemitism, and “the Muslim question” in relation to the present war.

Das mit „fool us twice“ ist nicht wörtlich.
Er erinnerte daran, dass vor 23 Jahren eine US-Regierung Spanien (unter dem damaligen Ministerpräsidenten Aznar) in einen „ungerechten Krieg“ im Irak hineingezogen habe. Die Begründung damals lautete: Massenvernichtungswaffen („nukes“/WMDs) beseitigen und Demokratie bringen. Es wurden jedoch keine solchen Waffen gefunden. Sánchez warnte davor, die Geschichte zu wiederholen und bekräftigte Spaniens Haltung mit „No a la guerra“ (Nein zum Krieg). Er betonte, Spanien werde sich nicht an etwas beteiligen, das gegen das Völkerrecht verstoße, und lehnte auch die Nutzung spanischer Militärbasen (Rota und Morón) für Angriffe auf den Iran ab – trotz Drohungen Trumps mit Handelsbeschränkungen.

Für unser Land kann man sich nur schämen.

• Spanien hat seinen gesamten Luftraum für alle US-Militärflugzeuge gesperrt, die mit Operationen gegen den Iran in Verbindung stehen.
• Zuvor wurden bereits die gemeinsamen US-Stützpunkte Rota und Morón für diesen Zweck verboten.
• Die spanische Verteidigungsministerin&Ministerpräsident haben das explizit bestätigt. Sie nennen den Krieg „illegal und ungerecht“ und wollen keine Unterstützung leisten.
• Das betrifft auch Überflüge

Italien hat US-Militärflugzeugen die Landung auf dem wichtigen Stützpunkt Sigonella (Sizilien) verweigert, wenn die Flüge mit dem Iran-Krieg zusammenhängen.
• Es handelt sich um Einzelfall-Prüfung; keine generelle Luftraumsperrung, aber konkrete Anfragen wurden abgelehnt.

Nach dieser Geschichte dürfte Justizministerin Stefanie Hubig (SPD — natürlich …) eigentlich keinen Tag länger im Amt bleiben.

Da sollte eine orchestrierte mediale Empörungskampagne dazu genutzt werden, neue Zensurgesetze durchzusetzen. Das alarmierte den gewissenhaften Anwalt Patrick Baumfalk, der daraufhin den lesenswerten Artikel »Wenn Tränen Gesetze machen« verfaßte. Im Kern geht es darum, wie weit das Justizministerium und regierungsabhängige NGOs wie HateAid an der Kampagne beteiligt waren. Mit einem persönlichen Brief wird vom Justizministerium auf den Anwalt eingewirkt — ganz klar ein Einschüchterungsversuch. Brisant: Um die Justizministerin vor den Vorwürfen zu schützen, wird der Pressesprecher zum Lügen vorgeschickt. Ein vom eigenen Ministerium veröffentlichtes Video überführt die falschen Behauptungen …
