A multi-national group of researchers have warned that attempts by “curious” scientists to create so-called ‘mirror’ bacteria could pose an existential threat to life on earth.

Vaccines, antibiotics and immune systems would potentially be rendered useless to synthetic lifeforms were they to escape from a lab, according to Manchester University synthetic genomics and biosecurity expert.

Relax, though - mirror bacteria are apparently still decades away from becoming reality.
