Let's bring life to this channel: first message is about coming release of 12.0. Today the first release candidate of FreeBSD 12.0 will be available. To be honest, the article "What's new" (https://www.freebsd.org/releases/12.0R/relnotes.html) looks empty, there was long road from version 11 to version 12: upgraded many contrib parts (including clang, ZFS, openssl), remove support of old unused platforms, added support of new ARM/MIPS/PowerPC boards, added new tools, improved performance and fixed bugs. Please try FreeBSD 12.0-RC1 on your hardware and enjoy (or send problem report to https://bugs.freebsd.org).

Managing virtual resources with CBSD (Fosdem 2021)
CBSD team was working hard to bring you not just VM/jail management, but to also make integrating existing cloud software easy. This talk will describe new features of CBSD as well as some of the new projects around it: some are done, and some are in implementation phase.
CBSD can manage bhyve, Xen, VNET and non-VNET jails, setup your network environment and storage, but that's not all. There are numerous projects using CBSD as a base like ClonOS (WEB interface), Reggae for DevOps tasks (with support for all provisioning alternatives out there), Android emulation and Kubernetes management of CBSD/bhyve cluster. As CBSD have support for external modules, extending with custom functionalities and features is easier than ever [...]

Gaming on FreeBSD
Steam is a gaming platform that sells and manages games on Windows and Linux. Since FreeBSD has some pretty good Linux emulation, it is possible โ with some footnotes โ to run Linux Steam Games on FreeBSD. This was already possible in 2016 but the tooling keeps being updated, so letโs take a look at how things work.
