В ЧБ фотографии часто объекты разного цвета сливаются в серое пятно, светофильтры же помогают выделить главное. Оранжевый фильтр делает теплые цвета светлее, а холодные темнее. Синий фильтр - наоборот. Красный фильтр, вообще, делает синее небо черным в дневное время, как будто наступила ночь.

In a black-and-white photography, objects of different colors often blend into a grayish blur, but filters help to make the main thing stand out. The orange filter makes warm colors lighter and cool colors darker. A blue filter does the opposite. A red filter, in general, makes the blue sky black in the daytime, as if it were nighttime.
