"Justice can be messy" Well Go USA & Hi-YAH! have revealed an official US trailer for an Indonesian action thriller titled Preman: Silent Fury, which will be streaming on the Hi-YAH! service this week. This had a special preview at Comic-Con a few weeks ago and premiered at festivals last year including Fantastic Fest. A deaf criminal with a traumatic past and his son must fight their way out of their small Indonesian village after witnessing a horrible murder, pitting the gangster against the mob outfit that employed him. The film stars Khiva Iskak as Sandi the Preman (meaning a member of the Indonesian crime syndicate) who must turn against his crew and take on former allies to protect his son. The cast includes Muzakki Ramdhan, Kiki Narendra, Salvita De Corte Putri Ayudya, Egi Fedly, Gilbert Pattiruhu, Paul Agusta, and Emil Kusumo. This doesn't look as refined as The Raid, but it looks like it still might be as badass as that. https://onfs.net/3BDrl4y
"What a really want right now is to just focus on skating." Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for an LGBTQ documentary titled Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story, a raw & immersive feature film that follows competitive skateboarding icon Leo Baker in the lead up to the 2020 Olympics. The film premiered at the Outfest LA Film Festival last month and played at the New York Asian Film Festival, and is dropping on Netflix in a few weeks this August. The film follows celebrated competitive skating icon Leo Baker as they try to make space for themselves in the gendered world of pro sports and build a more inclusive skate culture, which leads him to doing the punkest thing imaginable. It won the Audience Award at Outfest and is described as a "must see trans skateboarding doc." This obviously looks like much more than just a story about skating, it's also about "balancing the gendered world of sports, transition, society, and skate culture." https://onfs.net/3bsMSCm
"If he's still alive... get him!!" Signature Entertainment in the UK has revealed an official UK trailer for an action thriller film titled Death Pursuit, also known as Bullet Proof. Both of these titles are generic and unexciting and don't offer any unique insight into what this film is about. A psychotic drug lord and his top hit man pursue the cantankerous thief who made off with his money and his beautiful wife. This Canadian production is described as "a full-throttle action thriller boasting jaw-dropping stunts and featuring action superstar Vinnie Jones." The film's director, James Clayton, plays the thief who pulls off a robbery of a lifetime but ends up with extra baggage. His only chance to escape is to drive. The cast also includes Lina Lecompte, Janvier Katabarwa, Philip Granger, and Gaston Morrison. It looks like more straight-to-VHS action trash right from a bargain bin in the 90s. Still have no idea how they keep making this junk. https://onfs.net/3Jxi9R9
"What you're looking for might be right in front of you." Good Deed Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for a Latvian thriller titled Squeal, the latest film made by filmmaker Aik Karapetian - a graduate of the Latvian Academy of Culture. This initially premiered at Fantastic Fest last year and will be out to watch later this month. The film also went under the title Samuel's Travels before being updated to Squeal for release. Lost in remotest part of Eastern Europe, Sam is a foreigner, searching for his biological father. But a minor road accident leads to a chance meeting with a pig-farmer's daughter, who captures him and makes him a slave on the farm. Fortunately, a seemingly magical piglet gains Sam’s confidence and shows him the way to freedom and true love. Sounds kinky and sort of entertaining. Belgian actor Kevin Janssens stars, with Laura Siliņa, Aigars Vilims, Normunds Griestiņš, Juris Bartkevičs, and Guntis Pilsums. It looks like a strange fable about veganism, reminding us that no animal deserves to be chained up on a farm. https://onfs.net/3vCfi3v
"There's an unhinged dude running around." Vertical Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for an indie drama titled Delia's Gone, the latest film by filmmaker Robert Budreau (That Beautiful Somewhere, Born to Be Blue). In the film, a convicted man embarks on a journey of violence and redemption to find out the truth about his sister's death. Delia's Gone stars Stephan James (from If Beale Street Could Talk and National Champions). After emerging from prison for 5 years for being wrongfully accused of killing his sister, Louis embarks upon a mission to find out what really happened to her. The cast also includes Marisa Tomei, Paul Walter Hauser, Genelle Williams, Hamza Haq, and Travis Fimmel. It looks like quite a powerful film, with an outstanding lead performance from Stephan. This very much seems worth a watch. https://onfs.net/3oRPsFe
"Your mom wouldn't have let us just give up without a fight." WTF is this!? Lionsgate unveiled an official trailer for a direct-to-video movie called Ghoster, which is a blatant Casper rip-off in every way. Aside from the 1995 Casper movie, there have been rumors that studios are trying to develop and make another new Casper movie, but nothing has happened yet. In the meantime, it looks like some crafty producer decide to make this BS. "Enter an enchanted, ghostly world with the captivating family adventure." An inquisitive girl and her father must unravel the secrets of Echoville Manor which has held the world's cutest spirit Ghoster captive for 50 years, before Yuto the ghost dragon wipes them all out in his quest for immortality. The cast features Sophie Proctor, J.R. Brown, Josh Escayg, Rachel G. Whittle, Marlon Ladd, and Gerardo Davila. It looks amusing and I'm sure kids will enjoy it. But it also looks like rubbish anyone should avoid. https://onfs.net/3QdVWK7
"We exist, we exist..." Janus Films has revealed a superb new 4K restoration trailer for the Czech New Wave feminist masterpiece Daises, first released in 1966. Directed by Vera Chytilová as her second feature at the time, the film was restored and premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in the Classics section earlier this year. After realizing that all world is spoiled, Marie and Marie are committed to be spoiled themselves. They rip off older men, feast in lavish meals and do all kinds of mischief. But what is all this leading to? A very good question, and hopefully the film criticizes that lavishness instead of continues to indulge in it. The film stars Jitka Cerhová as Marie I the Brunette + Ivana Karbanová as Marie II the Blonde. Described in reviews as: "Among the essential movies of the '60s, a bolt of liberatory lightning that illuminates future possibilities." This is the kind of vibrant classic that I enjoy catching up with and rediscovering nowadays. https://onfs.net/3BENGyS
"What is Lakers basketball without Magic Johnson?" Hulu has debuted another official trailer for sports doc series Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers, all about the iconic Los Angeles basketball team. The series captures the remarkable rise and unprecedented success of one of the most dominant and iconic franchises in professional sports. Featuring exclusive access to the Buss Family and revealing interviews with players, coaches, and front office execs, this 10-part series chronicles this extraordinary story from the inside – told only by the people who lived it. When charismatic real estate tycoon Dr. Jerry Buss purchased the Los Angeles Lakers in a wildly risky and complex business deal, nobody could have predicted just how much success was to come. Ultimately, Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers is about family, business, and power – and how all three must be harnessed to achieve greatness. This new trailer focuses on three important players: Magic Johnson, Shaq, and Kobe. It's also a good follow-up to the fictionalized version of the Lakers story told in Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (also on HBO also this year). Enjoy. https://onfs.net/3JsK58M
"I did t all for you!" Mutiny Pictures has revealed the official trailer for an indie crime comedy film titled Lie Hard, arriving on VOD directly later in August. The title is an obvious play on Die Hard, but it doesn't seem to live up to that potential. To impress his girlfriend's wealthy parents, a pathological liar borrows $4 million from a crime syndicate to purchase a mansion. Unfortunately for him, all debts need to be paid back. They actually found a real Long Island mansion that was about to be razed – and razed it themselves for the film. The film stars Ian Niles, who also co-wrote and directed this, plus Melanie Chandra, Cathwerine Curtin, Joel Marsh Garland, Alysia Reiner, Claire Coffee, Patrick Kilpatrick, Jordan Lane Price, Karalynn Dunton, Ari Barkan, Adam Lindo, Sean Patrick Folster, and Sid O'Connell. This actually looks a bit better than it sounds, the right amount of humor and wackiness and cringe. Take a look. https://onfs.net/3w0Ot9J
"Here, we don't believe in dreams... we live in nightmares." Dread Presents has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror anthology featured called Tiny Cinema. It's premiering at two different genre festivals this month (Popcorn Frights / FrightFest) and will be out on VOD in September. From the makers of Butt Boy, Tiny Cinema is a twisted tale of seemingly unconnected strangers whose lives will change in incredible and bizarre ways forever. This seems to be the very first "multiverse" horror film. "Game Night" spirals out of control when a simple joke goes over a guest's head. "Edna" is looking for love in all the wrong places. "Bust" sees two friends stopping at nothing to help their impotent buddy. "Deep Impact" has a delivery man deliver a package to himself... from the future. "Mother*******" focuses on an unlucky mafia card game. And "Daddies Home" finds a man transforming after unknowingly snorting ashes of his date's father. Starring Tyler Rice, Philip Ursino, Sam Landers, Kristina Clifford, Shelby Dash, Austin Lewis, Olivia Herman, Matt Rubano, Kyle Lewis, Matt Rasku, and Kevin Michael Moran. This is one hell of a wicked trailer! Totally sold. https://onfs.net/3Jrc0pu
"We won't call it quits. We'll call it the 'start.'" Searchlight Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for the latest film from acclaimed writer / director Martin McDonagh, known for his films In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, and Three Billboards previously. The Banshees of Inisherin is set to premiere at the 2022 Venice Film Festival in September (and likely at Telluride + TIFF too), then lands in theaters this October. Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, two lifelong friends find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, leading to alarming consequences for both. Banshees features another stellar cast: Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as the two friends (the same two from In Bruges! ha!), plus Kerry Condon, Pat Shortt, and Barry Keoghan. No surprise coming from McDonagh, this looks fantastic!! Impressive to see a story that's entirely about a friendship ending going to so many wacky places. https://onfs.net/3p04EzP
"Now that everybody's wide awake, we dig!" Saban Films has unveiled the trailer for an indie thriller titled Dig, from filmmaker K. Asher Levin who usually works as a producer in TV. Not to be confused with the other Netflix film called The Dig, this is a whole different story. A widowed father and his daughter whose house is up for demolition, are taken hostage by a dangerous couple, who won't stop until they retrieve what lies beneath the property. The father and daughter must work together to outsmart their captors and escape. Starring Thomas Jane, Emile Hirsch, Liana Liberato, Harlow Jane, and Makana David. The film "promises to be heart-stopping and action-packed, and is sure to showcase some great fight sequences from the" small cast. Doesn't look that bad, surprisingly, but it doesn't look that good either. Take a look below. https://onfs.net/3BGRvnc
"Hello guys! I need to talk to you, about a party you had here last night..." Kamikaze Dogfight has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror creation titled The Day After Halloween, arriving on VOD later in August this summer. No relation to the 1979 horror film also titled The Day After Halloween, which is a bit strange to see nowadays. "It's The Hangover meets Horror when Gravitas Ventures and Kamikaze Dogfight invite you to witness The Day after Halloween." Directed by Chad Ostrom, and written by Danny Schluck, this frighteningly fun genre treat sees two lifelong buddies forced to unravel the circumstances that led to a corpse in their bathtub in the wake of a Halloween party. Sounds intense. The film stars Danny Schluck, Brandon DeLany, Aimee Fogelman, and Victoria Meade. This doesn't look that good, which isn't a surprise considering this hasn't earned any buzz at the small festivals it has been screening at. Check it out. https://onfs.net/3oQiaWZ
Bruce is back on the big screen again!! Universal has released a new IMAX trailer for the 2022 IMAX re-release of Steven Spielberg's classic Jaws, the original shark movie that scared us all out of the water years ago. Jaws is known as the movie that launched the "summer movie season", opening originally in theaters in June of 1975, becoming a massive hit in the US and eventually worldwide. When a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community off Cape Cod, it's up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down. Starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton. Universal is re-releasing two of Spielberg's classics in IMAX - with E.T. landing first on August 12th, then Jaws at the start of September exclusively in IMAX cinemas. Check your local listings! Everyone knows and everyone loves Jaws - it was recently turned into a successful stage play showing in London called The Shark is Broken. Jaws was also one of the movies featured in the Netflix Voir series about loving movies. If you've never seen it on the big screen, now is your chance! Don't miss out on this. https://onfs.net/3QmnJb4
"He's the last great explorer." Universal has debuted a new US trailer for the documentary film Explorer, which is opening in the US on VOD later in August. It premiered in UK cinemas in July, as it's about a British explorer and has a better audience over there. A portrait of the "world's greatest living explorer" Sir Ranulph Fiennes, a film that goes beyond the record breaking achievements to explore the man behind the myth. With exclusive access to "Ran", his incredible film archive, preserved and cared for by the BFI National Archive, covering decades of expeditions and contributions from life-long friends and colleagues, Explorer tells the definitive story of an inspirational leader, delving deep into Ran's audacious and eccentric dreams to explore, and the complex motivations behind them. Director Matt Dyas says, "I wanted to create a compelling portrait of the real man... between cracks of the ordinary and extraordinary, I hope audiences see for themselves an intimate side to his personality and the motivations that drive him." This looks like it might pair nicely with the fantastic Attenborough doc now on Netflix. Travel lovers definitely need to watch. https://onfs.net/3btltA7
Have you ever heard of Will Vinton? How many people still know who he is nowadays? Vinton was the co-founder of a stop-motion animation studio based in Portland, Oregon. He created this studio in early 1970s, known as just "Will Vinton Studios" at the time, and it ended up becoming a mainstream success - you will definitely recognize their work. They're most well known for The California Raisins, as well as a few other films including Rip Van Winkle and Dinosaur. They even won an Academy Award in 1975 for an innovative claymation short film they created (called Closed Mondays). But all that is in the past, and it's not a story anyone can recall anymore. There isn't even much info about Will Vinton Studios on Wikipedia. Why? Well, you definitely know the other name of the animation studio as it's now known today - Laika. Claydream is a documentary takes us back through the story of Will Vinton and exactly what happened to him, his success and his downfall. It's the tragic story of a beautifully creative studio's undoing at the hands of a rich bastard. https://onfs.net/3StJK9S
"There's a lot about him you don't know." Oh yes I bet there is. Hulu has revealed the official trailer for a passionate new erotic thriller series titled Tell Me Lies, based on Carola Lovering's bestselling novel of the same name. Available for streaming in early September if anyone is curious to watch. Tell Me Lies follows a tumultuous but intoxicating relationship unfolding over the course of 8 years. When Lucy, played by Grace Van Patten, and Stephen, played by Jackson White, first meet at college, they are at that formative age when choices lead the way to consequences. Although their relationship begins like any campus romance, they quickly fall into an addictive entanglement that will permanently alter not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them. "Tell Me Lies is a twisted, sexy and gripping love story and as dramatic as it is, it's also relatable in many ways." Also starring Catherine Missal, Spencer House, Sonia Mena, Branden Cook, Benjamin Wadsworth, and Alicia Crowder. Ohh yeah this looks super cheesy and extra steamy. https://onfs.net/3byduC0
"The Harbinger has come." Screen Media Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror feature titled The Harbinger, opening soon in early September this year. Hoping to escape their past, Daniel and Theresa Snyder move their troubled young daughter Rosalie in to a quaint Midwestern town, but they are followed by the evil they tried to leave behind. When neighbors and other locals begin to die, the Snyders turn to a Native American seer and uncover a legend that may hold the key to saving their family, or a path to a grisly end for them and all they hold dear. This almost sounds like Poltergeist. The supernatural horror film stars Will Klipstine, who also directs this, plus Irene Bedard, Madeleine McGraw, Amanda MacDonald, and Steve Monroe. It sorta looks like a re-imagining of The Omen, with a young girl "taken" by the Devil. This gets super intense at the end and teases that gnarly demon (or is that the Devil himself?). https://onfs.net/3zuNShn
"We have nothing to hide." 1091 Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for another mysterious, thrilling, scary new UFO doc called Moment of Contact, about the "Roswell of Brazil." It's made by director James Fox, a self-described "ufologist" who last directed the 2020 doc The Phenomenon all about UFO cover-ups. Ever since the military released all that unexplainable UFO footage for the public to freak out over, ufologists have been going extra crazy with even stronger and more convincing theories. Moment of Contact is an exploration of extraterrestrial encounters centered on a series of events in 1996 when citizens of the town of Varginha, Brazil reported seeing a UFO crash and one or more strange creatures. Freaky shit. It has interviews with key eyewitnesses, experts and officials, including physicist & ufologist Stanton Friedman, Brazilian Air Force General Jose Carlos Pereira, and Brazilian ufologist Ademar Jose Gevaerd. This seems so convincing and sure of the evidence. Which is why I won't be watching this, no way, no aliens for me please. https://onfs.net/3oT2Mcn
"You need to come back - you made a big mistake." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie crime thriller / action drama titled One Way, the latest film from Irish filmmaker Andrew Baird. The film will be out to watch on VOD at the start of September for anyone who wants to watch one of Machine Gun Kelly's other leading roles. Freddy is on the run with a bag full of cash after a desperate robbery of his crime boss. Badly wounded and betrayed by his father, Freddy gets on a dirty bus where he meets a mysterious girl and another creepy passenger. He ends up in the California desert, where he must devise a plan to escape his pursuers. Colson Baker stars (aka Machine Gun Kelly) as Freddy, joined by Kevin Bacon, Travis Fimmel, Drea de Matteo, Storm Reid, Luis Da Silva, Rhys Coiro, and Meagan Holder. Despite the solid cast, this looks especially derivative and entirely average - yet another "stole from the wrong guy" plot. https://onfs.net/3Qojk7C
One of the best action movies this year is only available to watch at home. Unfortunately you can't watch it in theaters, where it belongs, and where you will have the best experience with it. Why? Ask Disney... Many critics are framing their reviews of this movie around this complaint because, well, we have to – this movie kicks ass and oddly Disney decided to screen it in theaters for critics, but it's releasing for streaming only (I double checked). Prey is a Predator one-off movie not connected to the Arnold Schwarzenegger franchise beyond the fact that it involves an alien "Predator" warrior. It was supposed to be a surprise, and I think it would've been an even more exhilarating experience to sit down for an action movie and discover only once it starts that it's actually a new Predator movie. Nonetheless, I had the privilege of watching Prey on the big screen and it totally rules. It's the best theatrical experience I've had this summer since Top Gun: Maverick. https://onfs.net/3vDyqyc
