India is currently facing an outbreak of the Nipah virus.
China and Thailand have announced enhanced screening procedures and raised health alert levels in response.
According to Chinese health officials, the virus primarily spreads through contact with the feces of infected individuals.
The infection spreads rapidly, and in severe forms, it can lead to coma within 24-48 hours. The mortality rate is up to 75%. There is no treatment or vaccine.
Scientists warn: the virus has high pandemic potential.
