Competitive sport is a great preparation for life. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose & the whole point is to learn to do both, while enjoying the ride.

There is nothing comparable to competitive sport - any sport - to teach kids about winning with grace, losing with dignity, pecking order, levels of ability, determination, discipline, etc - all within a, relatively, safe environment.

Save for eejit coaches (who think their Mourinho-like rise through the coaching ranks will be stymied by a couple of 12-0 hammerings) and embarrassing parents living their broken dreams through their kids.
