⬆️ I have seen primary school plays that were more convincingly scripted and acted than this unbelievably pathetic Irish Times/PBP production.
Jussie Smollett would be impressed

To sum up Ireland since the 1960s from trough to peak;

- the suicide rate rose 655%
- homicide rate rose 609%
- alcohol consumption rose 128%
- drug deaths rose 6,115%
- fertility rate fell 58%.

These negative cultural trends sped up as economic development accelerated and, in many cases, outstripped similar negative cultural trends taking place in comparable countries.

During this period, dramatic political fragmentation occurred, with Ireland moving from being a stable parliamentary democracy with a system of two or three parties, to being a country where nearly half of voters elect fringe and independent representatives and where coalitions are increasingly fractious.

We have seen that FDI seems to have an enormous impact on cultural and political outcomes. This finding suggests that something in the nature of FDI gives rise to anomie and cultural dislocation.

It seems likely that this is related to foreign attitudes flowing in along with FDI. Where American companies have landed in Ireland, American cultural attitudes have disproportionately prevailed. This is intuitively reasonable: we should expect that corporations will bring their values with them, both through their company culture but also through their management structures.

This has amplified since the introduction of ESG scores.

I see this fella...sexually assaulted a bloke who fell asleep at a party. The lads girlfriend came in to find this cunt fondling her unconscious fellas penis
They're all into Digital Morkeshing as well as perversion
You would think it wouldn't be beyond their abilities to not all tweet an almost-identical statement at the same time.
This is what happens when people trust the Opposition even less than the Government: they don't even pretend to oppose the regime these days

"That book was really a précis of the body of work I had done as a journalist and commentator between 1990, when I joined the Irish Times, and the beginning of 1997, when the Celtic Tiger shifted into third gear. It is important to stress that the analysis I offered at that time was widely dismissed and ridiculed — by ‘conservatives’ as much as what I called ‘pseudo-liberals’.

This was, I believe, because of the conditions described at the start of this article, whereby the ‘discussion’ had already degenerated into a faction-fight in which the notion of ‘progress’ itself — and in a singular direction — had already been implicitly accepted by almost everyone: The future was ‘there’ — out in front — and the only question was whether we should enter it or not. My overall hypothesis — that the policies and processes of ‘modernity’, ‘progressiveness’, et cetera, as well as the chosen methods of industrial development and modes of ideology relied upon, would prove disastrous for Ireland — was regarded as, at best, counterintuitive and deeply eccentric, and more often as outdated, stupid or insane.

My name became a kind of instant snigger-trigger among economists of the time, who were actually quite appalled that someone could question the very basis of ‘development’. Similarly with other categories of commentator, who regarded me as a reactionary and an ‘ignorant culchie’ (rustic). I was told recurringly that we ‘cannot go back’ by people who could hear what I was saying only in the terms of their own prejudices, which I contradicted."

Make sure to read the John Waters article for some more info!

There it is. Unspeakably sad that kids are subjected to that.

Heads are needed on a spike.

You think you are immune from any hurt in this world, you've been through so many fires nothing can wound you, and then little Wolfie runs out of road.
This was easily the sweetest, most affectionate hound in modern Irish History, and a true faithful shadow from 2013 when my ex found her abandoned and shivering on a road somewhere between Tipp and Cork.
The decade since has witnessed some unbelievable shit and through it all she'd be there smiling with a wag of the tail and a grin which always suggested things weren't so bad. 'Play wif me!' All the world's troubles would seem to melt away.
Sleep soundly and sweet dreams, you beautiful angel. I love you 💔💔💔

⬆️ Tom Verlaine gone now too.
Is this what happens as the years roll on, tombstones start to mark out the weeks and months?

JOHN MCGUIRK: "We have no identified attackers. We also, now, have no contactable victims. There is one witness available to this incident and one only – Kitty Holland. Nobody else has gone on record confirming that any attack took place at all."
