One thing though, even then: the 'right wingers' were much happier to debate and discuss Political Issues with people from the other side of the fence than a 2022 lib, by a mile. You'd talk of this and that, disagree on tons, and then they would buy you a whisky and move onto discussing sports or film and give you warm well wishes whenever they left. They didn't seem to judge people by their politics, hold daft grudges or go around thinking they were Superior Beings.
