The findings revealed that 61% of men and 41% of women did not define forced sex with an acquaintance as rape, though the vast majority of both genders considered forced sex with a stranger to be rape. When asked about forced sex within a marriage, only a small minority of respondents considered it rape.

Dr. Moor concluded that the results documented the public's "tolerant attitude toward rape by an acquaintance," which is the most common form of sexual assault.
