Day 6: Backend Development
Yesterday, we looked at the part users can see the Frontend.
Today, let's go behind the scenes.
The Backend is responsible for the logic, data, and functionality that make an application work.
Here are the basics every Software Engineering student should know:
🖥️ Servers – Receive requests from users and send back responses.
🔗 APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) – Allow the frontend and backend to communicate with each other.
🗄️ Databases – Store and manage application data such as users, posts, products, and more.
🔐 Authentication & Authorization – Authentication verifies who you are, while authorization determines what you're allowed to access.
⚙️ Business Logic – The rules that define how an application works, such as processing payments, validating data, or managing user actions.
The frontend creates what users see.
The backend makes it all work.
Together, they form a complete application.✨

Day 7: Developer Tools
Knowing how to code is important, but every software engineer also needs the right tools to build, collaborate, and deploy applications.
Here are some of the tools you should be familiar with:
📝 Git – Tracks changes in your code and lets you go back if something goes wrong.
🌍 GitHub – A platform to store your projects, collaborate with others, and showcase your work.(we hv mentioned both git and github before)
⌨️ Linux & Terminal – Help you interact with your computer more efficiently and are widely used in development and servers.
🐳 Docker – Packages your application so it runs the same way on different computers.
☁️ Cloud & Deployment – Services like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud help you deploy applications so people around the world can use them.
These tools may seem overwhelming at first, but we don't need to master them all today. We'll see them one step at a time, and use them throughout our software engineering journey.
Tomorrow, we'll explore AI for Software Engineers—how to use AI as a tool to learn faster, write better code, and become a more productive developer. ✨

How was the challenge for u👀
To be honest,i caught myself complaining quite a few times this week.every time I remembered the challenge, it helped me pause before speaking(ሙሉ በሙሉ አላማረርኩም ለማለት ይከብደኛል ግን ብዙ ነገር እንዳስተውል አርጎኛል፤ምን ያህል አማራሪ እንደሆንኩ 😁እና ብዙ ላመሰግንባቸው የሚገቡ ነገሮችን እንዳይ አድርጎኛል
እና the goal isn't just one week,it's to keep practicing this every day.✨

Day 8: AI for Software Engineers
AI has changed the way we learn and build software. Today, it's one of the most valuable tools a software engineer can have.
But here's something important:
AI should help you think, not replace your thinking.
Here are a few ways every Software Engineering student can use AI:
💬 Learning – Understand difficult concepts and explore new technologies.
💻 Coding – Generate code, fix bugs, and discover different approaches to solving problems.
🧠 Problem Solving – Brainstorm ideas, explain algorithms, and break down complex tasks.
📝 Documentation – Write documentation, summarize code, and improve readability.
⚡ Productivity – Automate repetitive tasks and save time.
AI can write code, but it doesn't always write the right code. That's why understanding the fundamentals is still essential. The better your foundation, the better you'll be at using AI effectively.
Use AI as a mentor, a coding partner, and a learning assistant—not as a replacement for your own understanding.
Tomorrow, we'll explore Security, Testing, and Clean Code—because writing software isn't just about making it work; it's about making it reliable, secure, and maintainable.✨

Day 9: Security, Testing & Clean Code
As software engineers, our job isn't just to make software work—it's to make it secure, reliable, and easy to maintain.
Here are some important concepts every Software Engineering student should know:
🔒 Security – Protect applications and users' data from common vulnerabilities and attacks.
🧪 Testing – Verify that your code works as expected and continues to work as your application grows.
✨ Clean Code – Write code that is simple, readable, and easy for others (and ur future self) to understand.
🐞 Debugging – Learn how to find, understand, and fix bugs instead of just making them disappear.
🛡️ Error Handling – Expect mistakes and handle them gracefully so your application doesn't crash unexpectedly.
Anyone can write code that works. A software engineer writes code that works well, is secure, and can be maintained over time.
Tomorrow is our final day, where we'll explore Software Architecture & System Design—how software engineers think when building large, scalable applications. ✨

Day 10: Software Architecture & System Design
We've reached the final day of this series.
So far, we've explored the foundations of Software Engineering. The last piece is learning how to put everything together.
Here are some concepts every Software Engineering student should know:
🏗️ Software Architecture – How a software system is organized and how its different parts work together.
📐 System Design – Planning and designing applications that are scalable, reliable, and easy to maintain.
🧩 Design Patterns – Common solutions to common software design problems.
📈 Scalability – Building applications that continue to perform well as the number of users grows.
🤝 Communication & Teamwork – Great software is built by teams, not individuals.
📄 Documentation – Writing clear documentation makes software easier to understand and maintain.
🌱 Continuous Learning – Technology changes every day, so learning never stops.
Software Engineering isn't about mastering every technology. It's about understanding the fundamentals, solving problems, and knowing how everything connects.
This is just the beginning. Keep learning, keep building, and don't be afraid to start over when you need to. Every great software engineer was once a beginner.✨
