Day 2: How the Internet Works 🌐

Yesterday, we looked at the computer itself. Today, let's see how computers communicate with each other.

Every time you open a website, send a message, or watch a video, many things happen behind the scenes.

Here are the basics every Software Engineering student should know:

🌍 The Internet – A global network that connects millions of computers.

📍 IP Address – Every device connected to the internet has an address, just like every house has one.

🔎 DNS (Domain Name System) – It translates website names like "google .com" into IP addresses that computers can understand.

📨 HTTP & HTTPS – The rules (protocols) that allow browsers and servers to communicate. HTTPS is the secure version that protects your data.

🤝 Client & Server – Your browser or mobile app is the client. The computer that stores and sends the website or data is the server.

Understanding these concepts will make learning APIs, backend development, and web development much easier.

Tomorrow, we'll see programming Fundamentals—how we communicate with computers and the core concepts that every programming language is built on.

Day 3: Programming Fundamentals

Now that we have a basic understanding of how computers work, the next step is learning how to communicate with them.

Programming is simply the process of giving a computer instructions to solve a problem.

Here are the fundamentals every Software Engineering student should know:

💡 Variables – Store information.

🔤 Data Types – Different kinds of data like numbers, text, and true/false values.

🔀 Conditions – Help a program make decisions.

🔁 Loops – Repeat tasks without writing the same code again.

🧩 Functions – Break code into reusable pieces.

🏛️ Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) – A way to organize code using classes and objects.

🐞 Debugging – Finding and fixing errors in your code.

No matter which programming language you choose—C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, or others—these concepts remain the foundation.

Tomorrow, we'll move to Algorithms & Data Structures and learn how programmers solve problems efficiently. ✨

I came across a quote that said, "Humans are designed to create. This is why you get depressed when all you do is consume." It stayed with me.

እና ከትንሽ ቀናት በፊት I was on a bus.an old woman got on carrying nothing but thread and her hands. From the moment she sat down until she got off,she quietly sewed ዳንቴል. She wasn't in a hurry. She wasn't waiting for inspiration. She was simply creating.ልዩነታችንን አይቼ ስገረም ነበር።😁
Meanwhile, I was scrolling through my phone, saving posts, collecting ideas, convincing myself that one day all of this would help me. She was turning thread into something beautiful. I was turning minutes into bookmarks.

Maybe that's the difference. We spend so much time preparing to create that we forget to create at all.
That old woman never said a word, but somehow she reminded me that the hands are meant to make, not just to hold a screen.

እና ምን ልላችሁ ፈልጌ ነው ከመሰብሰብም ባለፈ let your hands create as much as your mind collects.✨

Let's go to day 4......
Day 4: Algorithms & Data Structures 🧩

Now that we know how to write programs, the next question is:

How can we solve problems efficiently?

That's where Algorithms and Data Structures come in.

🧠 Algorithms are step-by-step instructions for solving a problem. A good algorithm helps your program run faster and use fewer resources.

📦 Data Structures are different ways of organizing and storing data so it can be accessed and managed efficiently.

Some common data structures you'll encounter are:

- Arrays
- Linked Lists
- Stacks
- Queues
- Trees
- Hash Tables

You'll also come across Big O Notation, which helps us measure how efficient an algorithm is as the amount of data grows.

We hv to understand that programming isn't just about making code work—it's about finding the best way to solve a problem.(Data Structures and Algorithms was one of the toughest courses for many of us, and I struggled with it too. But every good software engineer revisits the fundamentals. This time, let's learn it by understanding why it matters, not just to pass an exam.)😊

Tomorrow, we'll move to Frontend Development—the part of software engineering where our ideas become websites and applications that people can actually see and use.✨

Day 5: Frontend Development

So far, we've seen how computers work, how to program, and how to solve problems. Now it's time to build something people can actually see and use.

Frontend Development is everything users interact with when they open a website or web application.

Here are the core technologies every Software Engineering student should know:

🌐 HTML – The structure of a web page.

🎨 CSS – Styles the page and makes it responsive on different screen sizes.

⚡ JavaScript – Adds interactivity, making websites dynamic and responsive to user actions.

⚛️ Frontend Frameworks – Tools like React, Angular, Vue, and Svelte help developers build modern web applications more efficiently.

🎯 UI/UX Basics – A good application isn't just functional—it should also be easy to use, accessible, and provide a great user experience.

Frontend is where your ideas become something users can see, click, and interact with.

Tomorrow, we'll go behind the scenes and explore Backend Development, where the logic, data, and functionality of an application live.

Day 6: Backend Development

Yesterday, we looked at the part users can see the Frontend.

Today, let's go behind the scenes.

The Backend is responsible for the logic, data, and functionality that make an application work.

Here are the basics every Software Engineering student should know:

🖥️ Servers – Receive requests from users and send back responses.

🔗 APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) – Allow the frontend and backend to communicate with each other.

🗄️ Databases – Store and manage application data such as users, posts, products, and more.

🔐 Authentication & Authorization – Authentication verifies who you are, while authorization determines what you're allowed to access.

⚙️ Business Logic – The rules that define how an application works, such as processing payments, validating data, or managing user actions.

The frontend creates what users see.
The backend makes it all work.

Together, they form a complete application.✨
