🇱🇧❌🇪🇺 Naji Hayek, Deputy Leader of a major Christian Lebanese party (FPM), calls on the EU to stop sponsoring Syrian refugee presence in Lebanon, as it is exercising immense social pressure on the country.

It is common sense to call for their return as the Syrian war settled to areas in the north, leaving the rest of the country safe for return. However, the EU continues to pay and sponsor the refugees presence by granting monthly allowances, basic needs, education and job opportunities. This sponsorship makes it more profitable for a refugee to stay than to leave Lebanon, It is being used as a weapon against the Syrian government, holding the Syrian people "hostage" in Lebanon to deprive Syria, all in the expense of the Lebanese people and the Lebanese economy.

Additionally, the past couple months have seen increasing hostility against Syrian refugees by Lebanese groups, which was triggered by numerous crimes committed by refugee-majority organized criminal groups. Various parties and political figures, including Hezbollah's Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, have therefore asked the Lebanese state to pressure the EU by allowing refugees to cross to Europe unbothered until they agree on our terms of refugees' return.

However, It is unlikely that this will happen, as the matter is heavily politicized and geopolitically tied to foreign influences in Syria, such a shift in policy should come as a result of US-Syria talks, starting from lifting sanctions to promoting a political solution to the Syrian civil war. The Lebanese people continue to suffer from foreign meddling, and strategic mistakes.

🇮🇱❌🇹🇷 Bloomberg reports that Turkey has halted all trade with Israel. This move was not officially claimed or affirmed by any Turkish official yet.

If true, It would be a very brave and unprecedented move, a huge blow to Israel, as their trade volume with Turkey is significant to their economy, Turkey also acts as a distribution hub for Israeli goods, and a portal for Azerbaijani gas to the Israeli market.

📑 The Israeli military announces a series of senior appointments, including the next head of the Military Intelligence Directorate

Brig. Gen. Shlomi Binder, who currently serves as head of the Operations Division, will be appointed as the next chief of the Military Intelligence Directorate. Binder previously commanded the 91st "Galilee" Regional Division.

The current top intel chief, Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva, announced his resignation last month.

Brig. Gen. Avi Blot, who currently serves as the head of the Command and Staff College, will be appointed as the next chief of the Central Command, replacing Maj. Gen. Yehuda Fox, who recently decided to end his 36-year-long military career.

Brig. Gen. Dan Golfus, who currently commands the 98th Division, will be appointed as the next head of the Northern Corps and Maneuver Array. Goldfus led his division during four months of fighting in southern Gaza's Khan Younis.

Brig. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa, the commander of the 36th Division, will be appointed as head of the Personnel Directorate. Bar Kalifa led his division during months of fighting in northern Gaza.

Brig. Gen. Aviad Dagan, a senior Israeli Air Force officer, will be appointed as the next head of the Computer Service Directorate.

The nominated officers will all be promoted to the rank of major general in the coming months before they enter their roles.

The IDF says the appointments were made by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, following a "lengthy process."

The officers chosen for the top roles are "commanders who stood out in combat in the field and at headquarters," the military says.

The appointments are made by Gallant and Halevi despite opposition by some lawmakers, who have said that the military should not make such changes amid the war.
