Stock: Adobe is trading at 2-year low – Is it a value trap?

• Adobe continues to benefit from a broad suite of products, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Acrobat. Its digital media segment generated USD 4.6 billion in revenue last quarter (+12% yoy).

• In our view, unless competing GenAI models can resolve copyright governance at scale, Adobe’s enterprises base (its most profitable segment) should remain sticky.

• As such, we assign a lower fair P/E multiple of 19x, representing a discount to the historical forward P/E of 21x, and implying an upside potential of 43% based on 2027 earnings.

Macro Research: Europe Outlook 2026: Access growth at a reasonable price

• Europe’s earnings outlook is anchored by financials and healthcare as core pillars. Cyclical sectors could also rebound, with defence-led spending supporting a recovery across industrials.

• Europe is positioned as the primary liquid alternative to the US assets. As hedge fund positioning data and ETF flow suggest, global investors increasingly rotate into Europe when sentiment toward the US deteriorates.

• Europe offers access to growth at a reasonable price, supporting a constructive upgrade in market attractiveness. With earnings growth expected to rebound toward an estimated 10% in 2026 and valuations still at a meaningful discount to the US. With fair PE ratio of 15, we forecast upside potential of 14.5% by year end of 2027.

• The Bank of Japan raised interest rates by 25bps to 0.75% on 19 December 2025, reaffirming Japan’s continued shift away from decades of ultra-loose monetary policy.

• Earnings are expected to remain resilient, driven by growth in technology sectors as Japan advances its ambitions in semiconductor manufacturing and the domestic cloud ecosystem. Consumer and financial sectors are also poised to deliver steady growth.

• We project the Nikkei 225 Index to reach JPY 58,500 by FY2028 (year ended 31 March 2028), implying a 15.8% upside. Long-term valuation upgrades remain possible should capital efficiency continue to improve.

1. The US has detained Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro in New York while power has shifted to VP Delcy Rodríguez, as Washington signals it wants influence, especially over oil rather than boots on the ground, leaving Venezuela’s future highly uncertain.

2. China’s AI chip drive got a fresh boost as GPU designer Shanghai Biren surged nearly 76% on its Hong Kong debut. The USD 717m float was swamped by demand, as a wave of China AI flotations gathers pace, with MiniMax, Zhipu, and Baidu’s AI chip unit filing.

3. Markets displayed resilience heading into 2026, with European equities at records and US indices near highs despite AI bubble fears and geopolitical tensions, but investors should position cautiously for potential volatility.

2. Oil rose as traders assessed the potential 2026 surplus and Venezuela uncertainty after Maduro’s capture, as easing sanctions could boost Venezuela’s ~1.1 mbpd output and 303 bn barrels of reserves. Still, significant gains would require years and capital.

3. China’s rally is expanding into a noticeable shift toward Chinese tech stocks, as investors seek cheaper AI exposure than frothy US peers. A stronger yuan and increased expectations for 2026 policy support are propelling this trend, although the momentum seems increasingly stretched.

Macro Research: Global Healthcare 2026: Defensive profile, but not defensively priced; Downgrade to 2.5 “NEUTRAL”

• Now, the MSCI World Health Care Index trades close to +2 standard deviations above its 10-year average, with the 2027 forward P/E at 16.5x, just shy of the fair P/E of 18x.

• Over the longer term, we expect that rising sales volumes will more than compensate for near-term margin contraction, driven by broader accessibility and greater adoption of these medicines. However, in the near term, margin pressure remains a key headwind for 2026 under the MFN policy.

• We downgrade our view on the Global Healthcare Index to 2.5 Stars “Neutral” Rating to reflect the limited upside potential.
