Roles and Responsibilities:
Be responsible for independently reviewing and monitoring counterparties within the EMEA Financial Institutions portfolio, which includes Banks, Brokers, Insurers, and other Financial Institutions. Specifically, you will
Write credit reviews and recommend credit ratings to senior management for approval. This includes an evaluation of the Counterparty’s business model, its credit profile, macro-economic and sector trends, CAMEL analysis, performance vs its peers etc. These are for existing Counterparty’s as well as new clients to be on-boarded
Perform in-depth sector and peer reviews at appropriate frequency, highlighting key trends, growing risks and possible risk mitigation to be undertaken by the firm
Participate in due diligence calls and prepare analytical summaries for transactions
Assist the credit officers in setting and negotiating credit terms to be included in legal agreements with the counterparty
Monitor the performance of counterparties and also closely track developments related to the counterparty, industry, economy, regulations, markets etc. which could adversely impact the credit profile of the counterparty. Where necessary, detailed notes with the view/outlook and appropriate risk management action will have to be sent to Senior Management within the Risk Division
Determining Nomura’s trading capacity by assigning risk appetite to counterparties
Set or rationalize credit limits in conjunction with business activity with the counterparty
Investigate and close limit excesses by liaising with Front Office, Operations and Exposure Analytics team, to determine the cause and escalate genuine breaches as per Credit Policies
Analyze stressed exposure under various scenarios, and provide commentary on the same
Present to senior management at various forums on critical developments, areas of risk and sector / regulatory developments
Prepare material and commentary for various senior management / regulatory asks
Participate in projects related to rating methodology, portfolio monitoring, regulatory requirements etc.
Key Skills Required:
1-2 years’ experience in writing credit rating reviews on Financial institutions (Banks and/or Insurance companies)
Credit Research covering Financial Institutions is also acceptable
Professional degree holders such as CAs (1st attempt), CFA or MBAs from reputed institutes
Strong analytical skills and flexible thinking across disciplines
Excellent communication skills — able to communicate clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work in a team set-up, and when required independently on projects / assignments
Self-motivated with the willingness to work hard and flexibly, in a fast paced and rewarding environment
Proactive approach and solution-oriented, with the ability to see challenging tasks to completion
