πŸ“Š Belgian GP | Antonelli Telemetry Analysis 2025 vs 2026

Look at this telemetry: can you believe that it's the SAME track?!? 🀯 (⬜️'25 vs 🟩'26)

Spa's long full-throttle sections starve the '26 cars of energy, making them massively slower before most braking points. πŸͺ«

Take T16-17 (uphill): ANT lost 1km/h in '25, 48km/h in '26!
The '26 car, on full throttle, does NOT accelerate out of T10, DESPITE the rule changes made to limit clipping!

I've never seen such a big year-on-year difference in any racing series...

πŸ“Š Belgian GP - Qualifying | Qualifying 2025 vs 2026

Mercedes lost the least performance, yet was still over 3s/lap slower than last year!

Positions before penalties:
Mercedes P6 ('25) β†’ P1 ('26)
RBR P4 β†’ P2
McLaren P1 β†’ P3
Ferrari P3 β†’ P5

Aston was closer in pace to the '25 F2 pole than to their own '25 quali time: just 7.149s ahead of F2, but 7.617s off their best from last year!

πŸ“Š Belgian GP - Race | Race Pace Analysis

ANT was quickest, end of story!
0.20s/lap faster than LEC, 0.22s/lap ahead of VER!

LEC ended up fighting ANT rather than VER by pitting under the VSC. Still, a monumental drive (and a tremendous team effort to secure P2 in Spa with such an engine deficit)!

NOR had the pace: faster than HAM despite traffic, and fastest lap of the race!

Based on the onboards and his performance in free air, Hamilton’s damage didn’t seem to impact his performance significantly (maybe one tenth per lap).

PIA’s too, based on his engineer’s team radio.

Still, something to keep in mind...

Thoughts on the Belgian GP:

- Another terrific performance by ANT;
- The VSC was needed, but its timing and duration disproportionately helped Ferrari;
- Great drive again by LEC. Based on crash dynamics (not the final outcome), however, he deserved the penalty more than HAM;
- Following RUS’s crash, the WCC might be more open than the WDC;

βš™οΈ Belgian GP - Race | Russell's Deployment Issue

🟦 Russell was overtaken by Piastri from 3 positions back due to a deployment issue: his speed got stuck at 308 km/h, and the car couldn't accelerate! πŸͺ«

It only started accelerating again at the end of the straight.

🟦 ANT had weak deployment too, but no "speed limiter"!

🟧 McLaren (same PU) accelerated far more. πŸ”‹

Image 2:

Russell took Eau Rouge/Raidillon in 8th gear: McLaren used 7th despite having the shortest gear ratios on the grid, while ANT even briefly dropped to 6th!

Could the deployment software have been fooled by taking these corners in the highest gear?

His rpm dropped to 10,176, below the 10,500 rpm threshold required to unlock full fuel flow β†’ the ICE wasn't even running at full power!

βš™οΈ First Aston Martin Upgrade in 2026

Aston Martin is bringing their first update this weekend; it MUST work, or they won't be admitted to races starting from around Singapore! 🚫

Their quali performance went from bad to worse: 0.220% farther from pole EACH EVENT with a robust trend (RΒ²: 0.6).

The regression predicts them going above the 107% laptime threshold 6 quali sessions from now: at that point, they won't be allowed to race anymore!

Last time this happened in 2012 in Australia, to HRT.

βœ… Most improved teams: Cadillac (Started slowest, is now approaching the midfield) and Racing Bulls (Midfielder at start, now solidly best-of-the-rest).
βœ… Most improved top teams? Ferrari and RBR.

What do you think: will they work? They surely need to...

πŸ“Š Hungarian GP - Practice 2 | Session Overview

BEST SECTOR GAPS:
πŸŸ₯ Ferrari was quickest in FP2 and is the weekend's favourite thanks to these track characteristics!

- 4 Straight-mode zones: Less drag β†’ less impact of engine power, less energy to be deployed.
- No energy shortage: 9MJ available in quali over a short track.
- Many medium-speed corners, especially in sector 2, make SF-26's great downforce shine!

Updated 🟧 McL is looking great!

Mercedes didn't impress. ANT and RUS complained about balance and feeling.

ALO's B-spec Aston ran on low power, yet was quicker than 8 other drivers in the twisty S2: promising!

TOP SPEED:
Ferrari's top speed was very good, too!
And they didn't seem to be in a more powerful engine mode.

Instead, RBR ran a very conservative power mode.

MINISECTORS:
HAM/NOR/VER minisector battle: HAM was quickest for over half the lap (53.7%); NOR for just 19% of it (but he gained significantly whenever he was quickest, losing little when he wasn't).

Following FP2 and considering each car's strengths and weaknesses and the track characteristics, here are my Power Rankings:

1) πŸŸ₯ Ferrari
!

If Mercedes solves their issues:
2) 🟧 McL / ⬛️ Mercedes;
3) 🟦 RBR.

Otherwise:
2 )🟧 McL;
3) 🟦 RBR / ⬛️ Mercedes.

πŸ“Š Hungarian GP - Practice 2 | Long Runs

🟩 ANT quickest, on Softs.

🟦 VER was next best, fast on Softs and still pretty quick on Mediums.

πŸŸ₯ Ferrari didn't produce any stint which was either fast or long and consistent (hard to gauge).

Audi looks best-of-the-rest, but Racing Bulls might keep that crown.

Haas > Williams (which, however, kept very constant pace even on 25 laps tyres)!

Judging by PER's consistency, Cadillac should be ahead of Aston...

πŸ“Š Hungarian GP - Race | Race Start & Acceleration Times

Russell really can't catch a break: the anti-stall cost him 1.3s over 0-100 km/h! πŸ’₯

This race was yet another confirmation that Ferrari's start advantage has disappeared: all teams are now getting quick, consistent starts.

Time to consider dropping the pre-start procedure?

McLaren and Haas excelled, while Alpine and Audi struggled.

πŸ“Š Hungarian GP - Race | Race Pace Analysis

🟧 NOR remains quickest even after correcting for his additional tyre set, yet 🟦 VER was just 1 tenth behind, 🟩 ANT 0.15s behind!

πŸŸ₯ Ferrari was just 4th best on the track they should have dominated (also due to traffic).

🟩 Aston's updates really worked: 8th fastest team in the race, in front of Haas, Williams, and unreliable Cadillac!
