RACE SIMULATION - DAY 3 π΅RUS had a virtual 16.5s gap to π PIA at the end of the 50 laps. He had much higher degradation (and worse pace) on Softs.β Yet, he almost matched PIA in the last 2 stints.β

This can be read both ways:
- RUS's degradation on the soft was severe, which is never a product of sandbagging (bad for Mercedes).
- However, if they can solve that, he would become very close to PIA over a race distance (good for Mercedes).
Looking at the telemetry of several laps, the engine modes used (for both ICE and ERS deployment) were very similar for the two teams in all 3 stints, so that's not a factor.
Fuel loads could be different but not to a huge extent based on the performance on the straights and high-speed corners.

I've analysed the top speed in ALL the THOUSANDS of laps done in testing...
Here are the results!π‘
- Highest: 329 km/h by π PIA (D3, DRS + Tow)
-Highest on average: 316km/h by π΅ALB (D3, DRS)
Williams scored the highest top speed on average on EACH day: ALB D1, SAI D2, ALB D3. Higher engine mode, less drag, or both? π€
Top speeds were higher on the last day, and overall similar between day 1 and 2.
Haasβ focus on long runs is evident by their low top speeds in the first two days (DRS not used).

Australian GP - Wing Thursday!
π΄ Ferrari going all-in on the 4 DRS zones: their upper plane is the most loaded among the top teams!β‘οΈShould aid with quali perfo and tire wear but might make them easy to attack in the race.π‘
π McL's is much less loaded.
β«οΈ Merc is in between the 2.
π΅ RBR: shallower, but full-width, lower plane.
Fascinating choices! π₯

AUSTRALIAN GP - FP2 DATA π
1) SECTORS:
π΄ LEC was quick everywhere, already demolishing π΅ VER's 2023 pole (0.293s quicker).
TSU, DOO, PIA got the fastest sectors, however!
2) TOP SPEEDS:
Minimal drag for π£Alpine (and π΅RBR).
Mercedes and Williams ran draggy wings and didn't turn up the PU to compensate.
3) π΄LEC vs π PIA:
Were head-to-head until the last corner, where LEC gained 1 tenth through a 6km/h-higher minimum speed!
Everyone expects McL to be quick, but Ferrari should be a threat, too. π‘
We're in for a fascinating Australian GP!
