@FCBayernEN: Klose on Lazio's weakness: "Their weakness is at the back. We have to try and win the ball early high up the pitch. If we don't succeed, we have to regroup immediately. It will be important to have a good balance"i

@FCBayernEN: Klose on Lewandowski vs Immobile: "I see Lewandowski every day in training, I can judge more comprehensively. I think he's better. He's complete & a reference for strikers. Immobile is involved with and without the ball and needs few chances to score, which speaks for his quality https://ift.tt/3btMb7I

@FCBayernEN: Which result is good for Bayern in Rome?

Klose: "We need to score a goal anyway"i

@FCBayernEN: Klose on whether it's possible for Bayern to defend the CL title: "We really have to look from game to game due to our current personnel situation. It depends on how healthy and fit our players are and on the draw. The last 16 against Lazio will be tough enough"i

@FCBayernEN: Timo Werner on the #UCL favourites: "Bayern were maybe a bit more top favourites last season because they played unbelievably well after Lockdown and never slowed down. A 3-3 like against Bielefeld wouldn't have happened." [Kicker] https://ift.tt/3k7GwZ4

@FCBayernEN: Werner: "However, Bayern are still first favourites for the title with Manchester City and Liverpool because they're always there when it matters" [Kicker]i

@FCBayernEN: Niklas Süle will replace Benjamin Pavard once again in the starting lineup against Lazio [Bild]i

@FCBayernEN: Ilkay Gündogan: "Of course (Bayern are favourites). Opponents play with extra motivation against defending champions. It's always difficult to defend a title in all competitions. Bayern are defending champions and have an enormously strong team" [Kicker] https://ift.tt/3k7TDJP

Borussia Moenchengladbach v FC Bayern Muenchen - BundesligaPhoto by Lars Baron/Getty ImagesWhile Niklas Süle struggled a bit against Eintracht Frankfurt, he will reportedly be Bayern Munich’s right-back against Lazio.According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick will once again go with Niklas Süle at right-back against Lazio.Süle, whose performance at right-back in Bayern Munich’s 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt was generally panned, will slide out to wide to cover for Benjamin Pavard. Pavard, of course, tested positive for COVID-19 last week, which eliminated him from Flick’s roster choices for the Lazio match:Niklas Süle will replace Benjamin Pavard once again in the starting lineup against Lazio [Bild]— Sextuple winners (@iMiaSanMia) February 21, 2021In his previous appearances at right-back, Süle was very good, but the 25-year-old struggled at times against Die Adler, especially when matched up against Amine Younes and Filip Kostic, whose unique blend of speed, quickness, dribbling skills, and passing ability kept Süle off-balance and unconfident for the majority of the game.Per Sofascore.com, Süle lost possession 11 times in the game and won only 3 of 7 ground duels against Eintracht Frankfurt. On the positive side, Süle’s passing accuracy was 87% and — at times — he presented a threat going forward. He was, however, clearly uncomfortable with his one-on-one defending, which has been a strength of his for the entirety of his career.Pavard’s natural back-up is Bouna Sarr, but the Frenchman has been, well, extrêmement mauvais, so there will not be many calling for Bayern Munich’s summer acquisition to take the pitch. As has been echoed numerous times, Süle is in the first year of play following ACL surgery. The initial 12-24 months of a comeback can be extremely iffy for an athlete both physically and mentally. It is entirely possible that Süle is not operating at 100% physically or with absolute confidence in his knee. Those things can only come with time and unfortunately for Süle, there is no extra period for rest built into the schedule. The Bavarians will do battle with Lazio on Tuesday.

It’s a disappointing result for Bayern II, as they had the opportunity to put a nice gap between themselves and the bottom of the table. However, after eight games without a win, Köln finally managed to pick up all three points in the 3.Liga and complete the double over Bayern II for the season. It was always going to be a difficult match for Bayern II with so many absences. They were without Bright Arrey-Mbi (suspended), Sarpreet Singh (ill), Timo Kern (Achilles), Nicolas Kühn (“muscle problems”), Fiete Arp (injured calf), Malik Tillman (rehab from ACL tear) and Ron-Thorben Hoffmann (with the first team).Holger Seitz sent out a team with the average age of 21.5 even with a 34 year old (Nicolas Feldhahn) and a 31 year old (Maxi Welzmüller) in the lineup. There can be no questioning that the kids are getting quality experience against full professionals at Bayern.Bayern München II v Viktoria Köln - 3. Unfortunately, the 18-year-old was imprecise with his shooting in both instances. Then, in the 18th minute, Köln struck on a corner. Despite saving the initial attempt from the corner, Bayern II are unable to clear the ball, and Lucas Cueto puts it into the back of the net for Köln.Just before halftime, Lenn Jastremski struck the crossbar, but Bayern II entered the break down 0-1. The Bavarians kept up the pressure in the second half looking for the equalizer until centerback Kilian Senkbeil received his second yellow of the match and was sent off in the 78th minute. With Bayern II down a man, Köln turned the tables trying to cement their victory. It was Bayern II goalkeeper Lukas Schneller, however, who had other ides. In the 83rd minute, Schneller put together a triple save to deny Köln a second goal. With the final minutes of the match ticking away, Feldhahn was unable to convert a free kick (89’), and Bayern II fell 0-1 to Köln.A huge congratulations is in order for club captain Feldhahn. It had looked like the 24-year-old was headed toward a future with Bayern Munich, but something went awry on the path linking the player and club.Instead, Werner took his talents to England and has been a consistent whipping boy for the tabloids. Still, Werner has starting adapting to life on (10 goals, 9 assists) and off (his English has improved mightily) the field.“Even though I work a lot on my English, I couldn’t always express myself the way I wanted and had to be careful not to be misunderstood,” said Werner, who clearly knew how any one hiccup verbally could become sensationalized. “That’s more natural now and no longer a problem; you almost feel a bit at home.”One thing that Werner misses about Germany is being able to play with Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller for Die Mannschaft. It sure sounds like Werner would love to see Müller back in action with the national team as well.“Thomas has already scored double figures again and set up a lot of goals. The time I played with him was a lot of fun. He kept putting balls through for me, too. While in need to offload a bunch of players, including Leo Messi, in order to be able to afford him, Blaugrana, as some of Borussia Dortmund star hitman’s further suitors, are also pondering to go after him in summer 2022, when a 75 million euros exit clause upon him is going to be enabled, according to Mundo Deportivo. As long as no one forestalls the competition by signing him during next window, of course.I’ve said it a million times, but I would find a way to get Haaland before he bolts Germany if I was Bayern Munich. However the Bavarians need to make it work on the field, in the locker room, and with its coffers, Haaland is just too special of a talent to let go by because of timing. Here is to hoping that the Bayern Munich board has some secret plan to activate Haaland’s release clause in 2022.Dortmund catching some heat (@DLF_Sport)Speaking of Borussia Dortmund, the club and its players are feeling a bit of pressure after the video below emerged. Al Ahly SC v FC Bayern Muenchen - FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020Photo by David Ramos - FIFA/FIFA via Getty ImagesIt still looks like Bayern Munich will have to deal without Thomas Müller for a while longer.According to a report from Sport1 reporter Florian Plettenberg, the earliest possible return to Bayern Munich for Thomas Müller will be on March 6th against Borussia Dortmund.Müller, who is quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19, appears to have a long road ahead of him as he seeks to clear the quarantine regulations, along with getting himself back into form:Update Müller: The earliest possible return is the match against Dortmund (6 March). @SPORT1 #FCBayern— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) February 21, 2021Müller recently released a video on Instagram to fans saying that he was “healthy again”, but he will ultimately still miss the Champions League match against Lazio on Tuesday February 23rd and the Bundesliga fixture against FC Köln on Saturday February 27th.Given how much Bayern Munich has struggled without Müller, this could be a very treacherous stretch for the Bavarians. With no clear back-up, Hansi Flick has used Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting in Müller’s place, but could opt for Jamal Musiala or even Leon Goretzka against Lazio.Goretzka prefers to play as an 8, but is fully capable of sliding up higher to play the 10 should Flick opt to go with the more experience option behind Robert Lewandowski.

@FCBayernEN: Press conference with Hansi Flick and Kingsley Coman at 13:45 CET ahead of tomorrow's game against Lazio. #LAZFCB #UCL https://ift.tt/3qKqVRz

@FCBayernEN: Bayern have tightened their hygiene concept because there's risk of a complete team quarantine if another player tests positive. The players now aren't allowed to go shopping even with masks. They're only allowed to commute between home, Säbener Straße & games [Bild]i

@FCBayernEN: The team is also now being tested on a daily basis even on the days off. Sometimes even two tests a day like before the flight to Frankfurt. All activities for the media, sponsors and other partners have been put on hold. There shouldn't be meetings with strangers even with masksi

@FCBayernEN: Ciro Immobile: "Facing the best gives you satisfaction and extra motivation. Obviously, it will be a very difficult game. We will try to do our best in the two legs, aware that we won't change our style of play. We will always do what we know [UEFA] https://ift.tt/3aHUG00

@FCBayernEN: Immobile on Bayern: "They're a very attack-minded team, who play quick, total football, so it will be difficult for us to stop their attacks; then we'll look to cause them problems in their weak spots. We have to be focused on taking advantage of our chances"i

@FCBayernEN: Immobile: "We’re going up against the CL winners . It will be essential for us to understand every aspect of this game, we have to be pleased with the work we've done in the Champions League. Getting here after 20 years is a big result for the club and a source of happiness." https://ift.tt/3kcY1XH

@FCBayernEN: Immobile: "What do I like most about Lewandowski? The fact he's never satisfied. Every year he tries to improve & go beyond his limits, even if they are already exceptional. He's a complete striker. I think he is currently the best No9 in the world, so we have to be very careful" https://ift.tt/3pJ8bkf

@FCBayernEN: Immobile on Lewandowski: "It was crazy to beat him in the race for the Golden Boot. To challenge great players like him and Cristiano Ronaldo brought me great happiness."i
