Telegram Has Been Updated to Version 10.6

Telegram's January update has been released in the app stores, and here's something interesting about it:

• Self-destructing Voice Messages: Users can now send a voice message that can be listened to only once, after which it self-destructs. The feature works only in private chats. You cannot forward such messages to other chats.

• Self-destructing Video Messages: Like self-destructing voice messages, video messages disappear after the first view and only work in private chats.

• Pause During Recording: Pause and play back a voice or a video message before it is sent to the person you are chatting with.

• Updated Saved Messages: Now, when you tap on the header, a list of chats is displayed, from which messages have been forwarded to Saved Messages. In addition, in profiles of channels, groups, and other users, the Saved Messages tab allows you to view messages saved from this source.

This update was released without a related post on the messenger's official blog.

Premium Subscribers Can Now More Easily Hide Their Last Seen Time

Since today, Telegram Premium subscribers who choose to hide their last seen time will be able to see the last seen time of users who have not hidden it.

Please note: you will only see the last seen time of another user if they have not hidden their online from you. Having a Telegram Premium subscription does not allow you to bypass other users' privacy settings.

Reminder: before, if you hid your online status from another user, you lost the ability to see their last seen time, even if they didn't hide it from you.

Telegram Updated to Version 10.6.1

Telegram has released another January update. The Android and iOS apps are already available in the app stores, other clients will be updated in the near future.

The following features and settings are now available to users in the new version:

• Limit Who You Can Receive Private Messages From: Telegram Premium subscribers can now choose who can start new chats with them: "All users" or "Contacts and Premium users". The new setting is available in the Privacy and Security.

• Message Reading Time in Private Chats: Users can see exactly when the chat partner has read their messages In private chat. And Premium subscribers have the option to hide the time of reading from those chatters who cannot see their last seen time.

 • Premium Subscribers Can See the "Last Seen" of Other Users: From this day, Telegram Premium subscribers who have hidden their last seen time will be able to see last seen time of those users who have not hidden it in their privacy settings.

Telegram Desktop Has Been Updated to Version 4.14.8

What's new:

Fixed recording of video messages on iOS

Telegram for iOS was updated to version 10.6.3. It has fixed previously known problems with sound when recording video messages.

View Saved Messages by Chat. The new View as Chats mode lets you see a list of chats from which you've forwarded messages.

Each chat contains all the messages you forwarded to Saved Messages from chats with users, groups, and channels.

Saved in Shared Media. Every chat has a shared media section on its profile page.

This update adds a 'Saved' tab to shared media, containing any messages that you've forwarded to your Saved Messages.

Get Premium for Helping Telegram Send SMS Codes

Telegram has launched a program which allows users to get Premium for sending SMS messages with OTP codes to other users. A user from Indonesia shared screenshots of the feature with @tginfo.

Terms of Service have appeared for the new program, which is called “Peer-to-Peer Login Program”.

On the page Telegram informs that only users from some countries can participate. Telegram will be using user’s phone to send no more than 150 SMS codes monthly, at the user’s expense. When the user reaches the minimum quota, they will be rewarded with a transferable gift code that grants access to a monthly Telegram Premium subscription. The messenger won't compensate carrier rates and fees for sending the messages.

Telegram warns that theoretically program participants can see phone numbers of the users who receive the OTP codes. The same way, receivers will know the codes are sent from other Telegram users.

@tginfo confirmed existence of the feature in Telegram for Android 10.8.1 (4404) code. The Terms of Service point out that the program is only available to Android users.

We speculate that the program will be used in countries which have high SMS fees, like Indonesia.

Ad Income Sharing for Telegram channel owners

Pavel Durov announced that in March Telegram channel owners can start getting paid their work:

Broadcast channels on Telegram generate 1 trillion views monthly. Currently, only 10% of these views are monetized with Telegram Ads — a promotion tool designed with privacy in mind.

In March, the Telegram Ad Platform will officially open to all advertisers in nearly a hundred new countries. Channel owners in these countries will start receiving 50% of any revenue that Telegram makes from displaying ads in their channels.

To ensure ad payments and withdrawals are fast and secure, we will exclusively use the TON blockchain. Similar to our approach with Telegram usernames on Fragment, we will sell ads and share revenue with channel owners in Toncoin. This will create a virtuous circle, in which content creators will be able to either cash out their Toncoins — or reinvest them in promoting and upgrading their channels.

Back in 2021 Telegram announced its plans to share ad income with channel creators when the messenger will be able to cover its main expences.

Telegram Will Only Share Its Ad Revenue in Countries Where Ad Platform Is Newly Introduced

Yesterday, Pavel Durov announced that starting from March of this year, Telegram will share half of its native ads revenue with channel owners. According to the "Durov's Code" channel, citing one of Telegram's advertising partners, payouts will only be made in countries that are new to advertising. For example, Russia is not among them, as the advertising platform in the Russian market was launched earlier.

In the new countries, Telegram will sell ads and reward channel owners only in TON cryptocurrency.

In regions where advertising has been running for a long time, the previous methods of payment for sponsored posts will remain.

Whether the reward system will ever be extended to countries where the advertising platform has already been launched is not reported.
