Telegram fights account hijacking

Over the past few months, the activity of scammers trying to steal Telegram user accounts has increased significantly.

Over the past month, our readers have reported that they sometimes get kicked out of their accounts, and after re-logging in, they find that all messages sent by them in private chats in the last few hours or days are deleted for both interlocutors.

We suppose that these measures may be an attempt by the Telegram platform to combat account hijacking.

@tginfoen strongly recommend to subscribers to keep their account information up to date:
1. Do not keep accounts on SIM cards that are not accessible. If you do not have access to a SIM card with an account phone number, then you have a risk or losing access to this account at any time. Recall: Telegram allows you to change the phone number of account without losing chats and contacts.
2. Remember your cloud password or check access to the email specified to recover it.
3. If your account has been switched to authorization by e-mail then make sure that you have access to the corresponding e-mail box.
4. Use local passcode on your smartphone and especially in Telegram Desktop: it encrypts local date stored on your your PC and prevents using this data by intruders even if they steal it.

Results of the Call UI contest for Android and iOS developers

The goal of this contest was to implement an updated design for audio and video calls in Telegram for Android or Telegram for iOS based on provided layouts (Android / iOS).

The prize pool of $100,000 was shared among all 49 developers who took part in the competition (of which 21 presented their work on Android, and 28 on iOS). Detailed information about the winners, their awards and the results of their work can be viewed on the official channel of the Telegram contests.

Submissions were judged based on the overall aesthetics of the app, the consistency of the submissions with the layouts and design elements provided, the smoothness of the animation, and the overall stability of the app.

Conducted competitions are the only way to join the messenger development team. Therefore, several winners will soon learn from Telegram not only about their payments, but also about the opportunity to continue working in the project.

Ability to share a folder

In the beta version of Telegram for Android, you can now share folder-based collections of your chats with other users.

Some Features:
• You can set several links for your folder with different sets of groups and channels that are included there initially.
• Private chats and bots cannot be shared.
• You can share access to a private group or channel with users only if you have administrator rights there with the ability to manage invitation links.
• You can only share folders that do not include chats by type (Contacts, Non-Contacts, Channels, Groups, Bots) and that do not contain excluded chats.
• If a folder author adds new groups or channels to the same collection that a user has used, that user will be prompted to join them.
• You can share a folder with others not only using a t.me/addlist link, but also via a QR code.
• Users without Telegram Premium can create links for only two folders, and with a subscription — for twenty folders. The limit also applies to the number of collections that you can add to your account.

Note:
• The application does not warn the user against accidentally adding a private group or channel to a collection.
• If the collection contains a simple group, then after creating a link to the folder, it is automatically converted into a supergroup with all the ensuing consequences.

The ability to share folders is already available to all users who have installed the current Beta version of Telegram.

Users report that the Telegram app for Android now allows you to reset the email address previously specified for receiving one-time authorization codes.

According to the screenshots, Telegram Premium subscribers can reset their email instantly, while for other users, the email will be reset within 7 days.

Telegram for Android, iOS, MacOS, and Unigram were updated to version 9.6. Telegram Desktop was updated to version 4.8.

Share chat folders
• Create invitation links for chat folders to quickly share dozens of chats with other users.
• Users can add a folder and join all the chats in it with a single tap.
• Multiple invitation links can be created for each folder with access to different sets of chats.
• You can add any public chats to folders as well as those private groups and channels where you have administrator rights to invite other users.
• If new chats are added to the public folder and the invitation link is updated, participants will be prompted to join the added chats.
• You can create a folder under Settings > Chat Folders.

Choose a wallpaper for individual chats
• Use your favorite photos or color combinations as the wallpaper for individual private chats.
• Your chat partner can view the new wallpaper and set it to the same or choose a different one, if desired.
• To set a custom wallpaper for your chat, simply click on the three-dot icon and select "Change wallpaper" from the dropdown that appears.

More options for bots
• Bots with web apps can now be launched from any chat type.
• If bot supports this feature, the web app will be accessible via a direct link or by mentioning the bot's name in any chat on Telegram (inline mode).
• Web applications launched by a group can now offer collaborative or game modes to its members.

Interface improvements
• To postpone sending a message until the chat partner is online, just click the send button.
• When creating a group, it is no longer necessary to immediately add members to it.
• On recent iPhones, a new animation has been added while swiping a user, group, or channel profile (the profile picture will slide up and hide in the dynamic island area).

Shared Chat Folders

• You can now create invitation links for chat folders to quickly share dozens of chats with other users—for example, by sending them a thematic collection of channels.

• Recipients of such link can add the folder to their account with a single touch and join all the chats in it.

• If a user wants to remove a folder, they can also quickly leave all the chats at once.

• Users can customize the folder installed via the link to their liking: rename it, add their own chats, or delete the ones you suggested.

• Several invitation links can be created for each folder, giving specific access to different sets of chats.

• When creating a link, you can select the necessary chats and give it a unique name to avoid confusion with different chat collections within the folder.

• Any public chats can be added to shared folders, as well as private groups and channels where you have administrative rights to invite other users.

• Through a folder link, users can immediately join all the chats in it, even those that usually require application requests to join (so only administrators can add public chats with join requests to shared folders).

• Personal chats and chats with bots cannot be shared via folder links, but users can later add them to the folder themselves.

• When you add new chats to a shared folder, they do NOT automatically appear for other users who have installed that folder via the link.

• Participants will be invited to join new chats only if you update their invitation link.

• Any Telegram user can have up to 2 shared folders, each containing up to 100 chats. With a Telegram Premium subscription, users have access to 20 shared folders, each containing up to 200 chats, and up to 100 different invitation links for each folder.

Bot API has been updated to version 6.7

Important changes:
• Now the web application can be opened via a link, inline button or inline mode, not only in private messages, but also in groups. This change allows all developers to create web bots for group chats. Previously, this feature was available only to those bots whose owners paid for the integration in the "Attach" menu. However, adding bots to the "Attach" menu is still possible only for a fee.

Reacting as Groups and Channels

Currently, you can send messages on behalf of your groups and channels, but your reactions will still be on behalf of your personal account.

In the upcoming version of Telegram, you will be able to make your reactions on behalf of your groups and channels as well.

It’s worth noting that according to the changes in Telegram’s documentation, you will be able to react to messages with a specific reaction only once, regardless of the group or channel you chose to react on behalf of.

FAQ: Chat Owner's Unique Rights

The owner of a group or a channel has more rights than other admins, even if the admins have all possible permissions enabled.

List of actions that no one except the owner can perform:

General Actions:
• Changing the group or channel type between public and private
• Setting a username for a public group or channel.
• Turning “restrict content saving” On or Off.
• Turning topics On or Off (converting to a forum).
• Enabling or disabling the “Approval mode” option in a public group.
• Keeping owner rights after leaving and rejoining the chat.
• Deleting the group or channel. If the group or channel has more than 1,000 members, you must contact Telegram support to delete it.
• Send messages as public channels to groups (Premium feature).

Admin Management:
• Promoting, demoting admins, or changing their rights. Regular admins can only change permissions of admins they promoted themselves or promoted by a subordinate admins.
• Seeing and managing invite links created by other admins.

Telegram Desktop No Longer Allows Changing Phone Number

Telegram users can no longer change their account phone numbers in the Telegram Desktop (both Windows and macOS).

Telegram Info team believes that this limitation may be due to security reasons.
