I feel particularly excited about today’s Telegram update. It adds topics to large groups, transforming these linear chats into slick mobile-friendly versions of good old Internet Forums.
Ironically, the very first popular internet service I built around 20 years ago was also an Internet Forum – a message board for students of my university, which eventually grew into the biggest student portal in the region.
16 years ago I again incorporated forums into the Communities section of VK, a social network I founded. Since VK was the most popular communication platform in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other countries, tens of millions of people used the forum feature there.
I feel nostalgic about those times: I had yet to learn the skill of hiring engineers and designers back then, so I programmed and designed everything on my own, working 20 hours per day.
Today I am fortunate to have the best coding team in the world to recreate the forum experience for hundreds of millions across all platforms in a more modern, fast and accessible form. Telegram will now support organized conversations where thousands of people can concurrently discuss different subjects in the same group.
Topics today come packed with lots of features – including the ability to close and pin topics, flexible notification options and lots of fun animated emoji to be used as topic icons. But this is just the start. Taking advantage of the two-week delay caused by Apple’s review, we have begun to expand these new threaded groups into something even more powerful.

After 6 months of delay, Telegram has updated the source code of the macOS app on GitHub.
Previously, we compared which Telegram clients publish their source code on time and which have some delay. It is important to remember that timely source code releases give the community the opportunity to participate in the development of the messenger, and third-party developers to create modifications and audit code.

🔸 Feature is for Telegram groups (Pvt. and Public)
🔸 It's like sub-groups within a Group, or like forum threads. It breaks the main chat in topics
🔸 Topics can be created only if group members are 200 or more
🔸 Topics can't be used if group is linked to a channel. Similarly if you try to link group (with Topics enabled) to a channel, error comes.
🔸 Only group owners can turn on/off this feature
🔸 Owner can give 'Manage topics' permission to other Admins. The permission appears in admin rights; if 'Topics' is enabled and after reopening settings
🔸 Permission to create Topics can also be given to group members in group 'Permissions' section
🔸 After enabling Topics; group view will be changed to Topics view, previous timeline will be hidden, tap one of the Topic(s) to send messages
🔸 Admin can change topic title and topic icon anytime
🔸 You can use a few animated emoji as Topic icon (even if you are not Premium user)
🔸 Only animated emoji could be set as topic icon, no option for static emoji and picture/video

Selling usernames at the Fragment auction
It has become possible to sell any username in Telegram through an auction on the Fragment site.
To sell, you will need to log in using your Telegram account and link your TON wallet. Next, you place the first bid, from which the auction will start. The minimum bet is 10 TON.
On the Fragment website, there is a "My usernames" button in your account. The "Non-Collectible Usernames" section displays all your usernames - your account, your groups and channels.
When someone places a large bid, you will be refunded the amount of the original bid. However, if there are no more bets, you will get your bet back minus a commission of 5% and 5 TON.
In the event that someone outbids you, you will receive 95% of the highest bid plus your original bid.
It is forbidden to sell blocked usernames at the auction.

The results of the competition for the development of options in Telegram X for Android have been announced
The objective of the October contest was to implement in Telegram X comments, threads, the "Send as..." button and improved search (optional) identical to the attached demo materials.
Despite the strong recommendation of the organizers to focus on the implementation of one feature to achieve the highest quality, some contestants tried themselves in the development of two or three options at once.
When testing submitted submissions and evaluating the code of entries, the judges focused on the following criteria: code consistency, overall app stability, and how closely the submitted design was followed.
Detailed information about the winners, their awards and works can be viewed on the official channel of the Telegram contests.

In the recent update Telegram for iOS version 9.1.1 began offering to buy usernames on the Fragment auction. It happens when the user tries to assign a username that was revoked in the recent purge.
Currently only usernames starting from A to Q are available. If you try to assign a name that isn't on the auction yet, a default error is shown.
This is the first time the auction has been mentioned inside the app, apart from the mass messages coming from a service account.

Telegram tweeted that the messenger team is currently working on features that are exclusively useful for small groups.
Earlier in a Telegram blog, it was already mentioned that new tools for organizing communication are planned to be released by the end of the year. It is assumed that the novelties will best suit small groups. Details on the future functions are not yet available.
You can follow the updates being prepared and the options being tested in the @betainfoen channel.

The Beta version of Telegram for macOS references for a new "aggressive" anti-spam system appeared.
From the information we have, Telegram plans to improve the anti-spam system in groups starting from the next update. Admins will be able to enable the new "Aggressive anti-spam".
To improve the algorithms, admins can report false deletions in "Recent actions".

Fragment has changed the rules of usernames bidding. Now the user does not have to make the first bid to start bidding.
This is primarily useful for those who wanted to sell their usernames but could not put them on the site for fear of losing 5 TON + 5% of the sale. Also, it may also be of interest to those who want to buy an address, as there is no time limit of 1 week before the initial bid is set.

The Fragment auction refuses to take liability for compensating NFT buyers if a company or brand makes a formal request to Telegram for the transfer of a public name for use of its brand. Telegram can unlink an NFT from a username and such outcome is quite realistic.
Artem Abaev, Finpanda founder, comments: "To protect customer rights, Fragment needs to work out a Refund policy. [...] If the rules of the game remain fuzzy, buying names like @dior will, in my opinion, be a risky deal."
@tginfo prepared a detailed analysis of Fragment's ToS, discusses possible risks like Telegram account ban or removal of an NFT from Fragment's exchange, and also talks about a recent incident, where a channel with a purchased collectible username was banned for copyright infringement.

Telegram discloses the names, phone numbers and IP addresses of the users administrating piracy channels to Indian authorities
According to a Delhi High Court order, Telegram has disclosed the details of the administrators of piracy channels that published training material of Campus Private Limited and its teacher Nitu Singh for various exams. The judge rejected the messenger's arguments that the servers where the information was stored were located in Singapore and did not fall under Indian jurisdiction.
Later, on August 30, the Delhi High Court demanded that the names, phone numbers and IP addresses of those local channel administrators accused of distributing pirated content be handed over to Indian authorities.

The Fragment auction platform has expanded the list of user names available for sale and purchase.
At the beginning the usernames starting with A to H, later on I to Q was made available for sale. Now new user names are available from R to Z.
As we wrote on our channel @infotonen, usernames are solding as NFTs based on TON. They can be stored in cryptocurrency wallets and put up for sale both on marketplaces and on the official Telegram platform.
