What's new:

Telegram is Working on a Paid Subscription

Pavel Durov promised (in Russian) to launch an Ad-Free subscription this month.

Also the messenger team is working on an option for the channel owners to turn ads off on their channel. That will be possible with an "invisible sponsored message". This means ads won't be shown if the channel owner is ready to pay per view more than the advertisers.

Many users have suggested introducing the ability to disable official advertisements in Telegram channels.

We have already started work on this new feature and look forward to launching it this month. It can be issued in the form of a low-cost subscription, which will allow users to directly financially support the development of Telegram.

Some channel creators would also like to "turn off" advertisements in their channels. At the moment, we are calculating the economic conditions for this option. Advertisers will soon be able to place an "invisible" ad on any channel that - assuming there is sufficient cost per impression - will result in no ads on that channel.

We will continue to work on features that will allow Telegram to become a break-even project. The interests of users and content authors will remain our priority in this process.

How the features from the November Telegram update should work

In early November, Telegram launched a contest for Android developers, the goal of which was to implement features, which will become part of the upcoming update.

Today, the works of the contestants have become publicly available, which means that users can already try some of the functions. Let's try to figure out how it currently works:

1. Prevent forwarding messages and saving media

At the moment, the function is working, and can be configured by the author of the group or channel. It is important to note that forwarding messages and saving media works from older versions of clients, this should be fixed after stable release.

2. Sending messages via a channel in public groups

At the moment, you can write via channel only in those chats where the user is the administrator. There is no such limitation on the test server.

Results of November Android Developer Contest Announced

The task of the competition was to implement several new functions in the mobile application in accordance with the proposed design.

The prize-winners shared $ 63,000 among themselves.

Detailed information about the winners, their awards and works can be viewed on the official russian Telegram channel of the contests.

The second stage of the competition will focus on the implementation of one new feature in the Telegram application. A detailed description and video layouts of the upcoming stage will be published exactly one week later (in the evening of November 26). The competition will run for 9 days until 6.12.

Telegram advertising platform will exclude state channels

Pavel Durov stated that the messenger will not place advertisements on the channels of officials and government organizations:

"We are now excluding the channels of government officials and government organizations from the advertising platform"

New appearance of invitation links

Starting today, all invitation links are of the form: t.me/+zx_8t4HICqM0MGUy

Following links created earlier with the prefix "joinchat", joining will work as before.

Sponsored Posts in Third Party Clients

On the official website of the messenger an announcement has appeared regarding the display of sponsored messages in third-party Telegram applications.

Developers using the Telegram API must maintain and start displaying official sponsored posts correctly in their apps by January 1, 2022.

Using the Telegram API will continue to be free for all developers. The rules regarding monetization in third-party applications remain the same: developers are allowed to monetize their efforts through their own advertising or other legal means, provided that all monetization methods used in their applications are clearly mentioned in their app store descriptions.

If the rules are ignored, Telegram will disable applications that violate them.

Configure Secret Chat Requests in Other Active Sessions

According to the official GitHub repository with the source code of Telegram for Android, the upcoming update will give you an option to disable Secret Chat requests for active sessions of choice.

In other words, users will be able to make some exact devices they have logged in uncappable of accepting new Secret Chat requests. Earlier, users were complaining they were missing out some Secret Chats because of unclear algorithm which decides on which device should the chat start on.
