Animated Backgrounds and More

Animated Backgrounds have been added to all default themes. These new wallpapers swirl as you chat, thanks to a little algorithmic magic. 🧙‍♂️ Find your favorite from the dozens of new presets or build your own in the editor.

There’s much more motion as well – stickers and emoji now jump from your keyboard into the chat with new animations. On iOS, this also applies to media and text messages.

Personalized Commands
— Bots can now show lists of commands tailored to specific situations - including localized commands for users with different languages, as well as different commands based on chat type or for specific chats, and special lists of commands for chat admins.
— Added the class BotCommandScope, describing the scope to which bot commands apply.
— Added the parameters scope and language_code to the method setMyCommands to allow bots specify different commands for different chats and users.
— Added the parameters scope and language_code to the method getMyCommands.
— Added the method deleteMyCommands to allow deletion of the bot's commands for the given scope and user language.

Custom Placeholders:

— Renamed the method getChatMembersCount to getChatMemberCount. The old method name can still be used.
— Values of the field file_unique_id in objects of the type PhotoSize and of the fields small_file_unique_id and big_file_unique_id in objects of the type ChatPhoto were changed.

Task: Build an app for iOS or Android that helps users create unique stickers and import them to Telegram as described in this message.

System sounds in the next update

The official Twitter account of Telegram announced that in the next update sharing your screen will stream system sound too.

This feature has already appeared in the latest Telegram for Android Beta.

Telegram channels donations

A tool appeared in Telegram to help users in encouraging channel admins.

The verified @donate bot uses Payments 2.0. To receive donations, the channel admin has to add the bot as a channel admin with rights to delete posts. After that, you have to send a special command, which triggers the bot to create a donation button for you.

A channel you're trying to link has to have move than 1,000 subscribers, has to be public, has to be created more than 3 months ago, and has to belong to "Entertainment" or "Education" categories. The channel owner has to pass verification by scanning own face in the service.

Fees for accepting and withdrawing the funds are higher than 5% right now, but expected to be lowered in future. Despite the fact the bot looks like a native monetization solution from the Telegram team, this is actually a third-party service delivered by smart-glocal.com.
