Telegram for Android with no copyright restrictions

Telegram can be downloaded from Google Play, which sets one into a number of limitations: piracy content must be blocked, or else the app will be kicked out of the store. Moreover, each update gets delayed because of app moderation.

Telegram launches new distribution channel for the Android app — APK file download from the official website. The version you can download there is special: according to the site, it has less restrictions and updates faster than the Google Play one. It means the app has copyright restrictions disabled and has built-in updater to bypass the app store.

Such experience is already applied for Telegram Desktop and Telegram MacOS, if you download them from the official website.

Telegram update for Android to version 7.7.1

Version 7.7 is still not available on Google Play and there is a new release on the official website. Version 7.7 brings us updated voice chats and other not yet announced features, and the 7.7.1 (2291) update contains only bug fixes.

In addition to frequent updates, the blocking of pirated content is partially disabled in the client from the site, and an update mechanism is built-in bypassing the application store, which is not working yet.

⚡️ Telegram has banned SMS auth on PC and in browser

Telegram Desktop, Telegram MacOS and all official web versions (Webogram, WebK, WebZ, React) stopped sending SMS auth codes. Now, if there are no other active sessions, you can only use an already authorized mobile device with an active Internet connection to log in, since the code is being received as an in-app message. SMS continues to work in mobile apps and unofficial Telegram Desktop builds.

The intent of this change is unclear, since it will not increase security: spammers can easily use a different client. Telegram developers do not comment on this situation, but indicate that this change will remain forever. Furthermore, the negative impact of this change is obvious: in order to log in without already having an authorized device nearby, you have to have a phone with the Internet turned on, and if the phone does not have Telegram installed, you will have to download it first (if your device supports Telegram at all), then go through SMS login process in it, and only after that you can get the code to log in on PC.

At the same time, 6-digit auth codes are being tested for some numbers on the test server. Currently, users receive 5-digit auth codes.

It seems these two events are not related to each other, but there is a noticeable tendency to increase authorization security lately.

Two new positions to work in Telegram

— Responsibilities: Use a specialized interface to manually sort content according to provided guidelines.

— Preferred qualifications: Fluency in English, strong analytical skills, quick reaction, attention to detail.

• Translator

— Responsibilities: Translate app and website interfaces, blog posts, changelogs, and other text with a high level of precision on ambitious deadlines.

— Preferred qualifications: Fluency in English and a native-level fluency in another language, excellent written communication skills with a focus on detail.

What’s the difference between WebK and WebZ? Are there any plans to ultimate go with one of them only?

try using both, you'll see that they are very different while looking the same

e.g. webz giving you more control over the animations, selecting messages by clicking on the time

webk having simpler animations (which makes it look way better IMO, the webz animations are too much for me)

on Android I don't really know... make sure the app has all permissions it needs and your device isn't muted 😐
