Telegram 7.5 update. What awaits us?

Recently, Beta-version Telegram for Android has been updated to version 7.5, and received a number of new features.

What's new:
- Widgets.
- Broadcast groups.
- Auto delete messages.
- Temporary invitation links.
- Updated interface for channel and group complaints.
- More tips when copying text, username, hashtag, bio, and deleting a contact.

For the first time in several years, the Telegram for Android Beta was released earlier than the iOS beta.

What's wrong with Broadcast Groups

One of the new features in the coming Telegram 7.5 update is Broadcast Groups.

Broadcast Group example: @broadcastchat (hey, help us to reach 500 participants, so we can see statistics).

Despite the fact the feature is not released yet, it's already quite questionable.

Automatic messages deletion, widgets, temporary invites and more

Telegram Android and TDesktop just updated to version 7.5 and 2.6 accordingly.

Auto-Delete Messages
• Set messages to auto-delete for everyone 24 hours or 7 days after sending.
• Control auto-delete settings in any of your chats, as well as in groups and channels where you are an admin.
• To enable auto-delete, right click on the chat in the chat list > Clear History > Enable Auto-Delete.

Expiring Invite Links for Groups and Channels
• Create invite links that work for a limited time or a limited number of uses.
• See which users joined using your, or your admins’, invite links.
• Turn any invite link into a QR code users can scan with their phone cameras.
• To manage invite links, click ⋮ > Manage Group/Channel > Invite Links.

Groups with Unlimited Members
• Convert groups that have reached 200,000 members into unlimited Broadcast Groups.

Better chat import
• When importing messages from other apps, messages will be sorted chronologically now – but only if you imported it into a chat with less than 1000 messages.

Telegram Desktop updated to stable version 2.6.1

What's new:
- Correct copying of the QR code in the night mode.
- Fixed display of the validity date of the invitation link.

Problem with installing applications from Telegram

Users of Telegram for Android version 7.5 may have encountered the problem of installing APK applications from the messenger.

A pop-up notification indicates that there is no application to work with this file type.

The problem has been seen on smartphones: Xiaomi, Asus, OnePlus, and some Samsung devices.

Workaround: Save apk in downloads, and install with any file manager.

Why Telegram needs $ 1 billion in debt and how will they spend it

Due to claims from regulators, the TON project had to be closed. The launch date (April 2020) was disrupted. This, by agreement with investors, imposed an obligation on Telegram to return 72% of the investment.

The Telegram presentation states that out of the $ 1 billion attracted, $ 684 million can go to pay off debts in 2021 (what this amount consists of, it is not specified).

Telegram plans to spend the money remaining after settling on debts from the bond issue in the following proportions:

• 35% - equipment. Telegram will continue to invest in its own servers and network equipment so as not to depend on third-party cloud providers.
• 25% - user verification. The company sends sms to each user during registration to make sure that his number is up to date;
• 15% - employee benefits.
• 15% - rent of space in data processing centers + 5% - Internet traffic providers;
• 5% - technical support.

At the time of the release of the documents studied by VTimes, it had only one share issued - it belongs to Pavel Durov. However, the documents indicate that the company also has a maximum of 50,000 authorized shares (without designation of par and class of shares).

«VTB Capital» as one of the placement agents for Telegram described to investors a wide range of potential value of the messenger — from $2.2 billion to $124 billion in 2022. A qualified investor confirmed to VTimes that he received a analytical note with similar data via VTB's investment app.

To evaluate the messenger, the investment bank compared it to five peer companies in the social media and online advertising space:

— According to the data, when comparing the EV/Sales multiplier (the ratio of the company's value to its sales), the valuation came out at $2.2 billion;
— Analysis by the EV/DAU ratio (ratio of the value of the company to the number of daily active users) which is usually used for growing IT organizations gave out the value of $124 billion.

Experts believe that the spread between the methods of evaluation in a particular case is acceptable because of the complexity of evaluating such companies.

«VTB Capital» also predicts that Telegram will grow faster than the market, and the revenue of the service at the end of 2022 could be about $200 million. The estimate was given based on the number of active users per month (over 500 million) and the number of views of publications within it (430 billion), suggesting that the project could become the basis for the development of the advertising business model and other ways of monetization.

The tentative closing date for applications is March 9, and the initial benchmark for yield is 7% (quite a high yield for convertible bonds, according to the investment bank).

Telegram received two times more placement bond applications than it had expected

The collection of bids for bond placement ended yesterday evening. This is stated in the prospectus for investors, issued by VTB Capital Group.

According to Forbes, the offer exceeded the volume of placement by 2 times, and the yield range will be 6-7%. At the same time, Telegram can increase the volume of supply from $1 billion to $1.5 billion.
